scaffidi can't drive wrote:2645m - I would bet Be Good Johnny to take the sit 9 times out of 10....
1609m - not in 1,000,000 years would he take a sit

He is a miler and great short course performer.. - look at all his wins over longer trips in good class last year..

Oct 05 - 2600m Albion Pk -Grand Circuit Race - sat back on the outside and came with one run at them
Nov 05 - 1760m Harold Pk - Miracle Mile.. sat outside leader and won
Dec 05 - 2570m Moonee Valley - Vic Cup - drew barrier 1.. handed up to Dinki Di - won on the sprint lane

Be Good Johnny hands up over the longer trips.. it's a case of knowing what the horses do under the different trips.. that and the fact that there are serious doubts about how he gets through with constant racing - Be Good Johnny two miracle mile wins and vic cup win have come off 3 - 4 week breaks.. showing how much better he goes fresh

End of argument the horse cant run 4 times in 2 weeks
Why waste everybodys time and race it.

reading the discussions between bayman/scd/mal i will now add my view which was mccarthy shouldnt have handed up, ok johnny didnt finish off that well in the end anyway but 1-1 is possibly the worst position to be in at globe in a good field as the is hardly ever a split- if robin hood hadnt gone so badly there would have been nowhere for johhny to go.
also if mccarthy hadnt of handed up my tip of winforu to win most probably wouldve happened and tribute wouldve been a very good chance to run 2nd as per my tips with 3 wide cover.

i agree with may-z, it is all ifs

know one expected robin hood to drop out like he did, which gave bgj the cheat lane so he would've been pocketed, before the race you would not expect bgj to hand up the death, during the race we do not know how it (bgj) was travelling, i would think he handed up because he wasn't travelling as well as he would've liked, but we dont know we presume that, i put my points as to the now (the point of handing up) not what happened at the finish, we can all drive better after the race its when its happening that i'm talking about, yes the way bgj finished he probably did the right thing but its when & now is when you make a decision not at the finish anylising what should or should not have happened & if we all knew the death was up for grabs we all would've backed the winner, my final statement is if bgj was travelling well at the time it was tactically the wrong move to make, if he was travelling a little ordinary it was the right move to make to finish as close as possible
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

talking of ifs and buts about 1 minute before the start of the trot final the real scaffidi (not you scd) said to me who wins if they all step away? i replied uncle petrika, and then we had a good laugh and said that it wont step away, about 15 seconds after the start we declared it home but unfortunately no prizes for that

Agree that the 1 x 1 at Globe is normally a terrible place to be at Globe.. but lets put in perspective - he had the favourite and reigning champ outside him about to cook him for the last 1300m and Tribute on the back of BAF.. Tribute is known as a sit sprinter, he would have thought that give the breeze up - Tribute would drop out and he would have last crack...

BUT - Tribute went absolutely amazing.. for a horse that has never done work and been competitive, what a run and in my view deserved to win / run 2nd on his effort.. it is clearly the best run he's ever put in and he may be the next star on the scene...

I'll leave it at that - as I seem to be the only one that thinks McCarthy did the right and more to the point consistant thing on BGJ...
