should these dogs be allowed to race during the hottest part of the day ? i think they should've changed it to early this morning or have it as a night meeting tonight
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

not at all, dogs feel the heat & dehydrate a lot more than horses, so i was after the experts opinion as to whether they should or not because as i've mentioned before my mate took a dog over (dutchy its pinchmans dog) to horsham on a day like today & the dog was never the same again after that trip also with horses you have the right to scratch with no penalty in extreme heat is that the same with the dogs ? so no there is no bait just a couple of curious ?'s

they do have a heat rule and i,m supprised it did not come into force today as they knew it was going to be 40 today.
TAB MEETINGS and NIGHT MEETINGS- At the discretion of the Stewards and Vet. Consideration will be given to change TAB day meetings to an earlier start or to a night meeting.

35 Degrees+ ALL MEETINGS- Meetings cancelled unless a Vet is in attendance

40 Degrees+ NON TAB MEETINGS- Day and Twilight Meetings cancelled.

great the vet is going to help a dog in heat stress.
yeh right.

so roo, do i read this correct at some (i'd presume lower type of meetings) that they race without a vet ? at the trotts & i presume the gallops there must be 3 'things' in attendence with the first being an ambulance (granted not needed at the dogs) then the other two should be a doctor & a vet, that really suprises me that a vet does not have to be in attendence for the meetings to go ahead

this is the heat policy from the grsa.
it's full of flaws and could be tested in a court if a talented dog was in trouble due to the meeting going ahead.
i know they can be scratched but then you get a penalty.

mmm me thinks it need work

thanks roo, well this is one thing the trotts do right, if you scratch because of the heat there is no penalty & it should be the same at the dogs (commonsense)
