The pre-season draft effectively returns. AFL clubs can rookie list a player after the NAB Cup!
Imagine if the Bays had lost Ruory Kirkby in mid-March .. or Norwood Simon Phillips ... or Central Ian Callinan?
Just another example of the AFL not giving a stuff about anything in football except itself.

Imagine if Ruory Kirby, Simon Phillips or Ian Callinan got to fulfil a life long dream and play at the highest level. Imagine if the vacancy created by these blokes resulted in someone from the SAAFL or a country league getting an opportunity to play SANFL

Re: Another kick in the face from the AFL
They should reintroduce some sore of zoning in the AFL so rookie listed players can at least stay with their state league club if that is the case. Might make the AFL club more accountable for putting work into their area for junior development as well.

Nothing like a stupid simplistic answer - you have no idea do you?
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

I'm posting the positive aspect for the players they may be involved, if you can't see that there is a positive for them then I have no doubt who the stupid, self-serving person, who has no interest in players furthering their careers, is.

Re: Another kick in the face from the AFL
Simplistic like I said!
I am all for players advancing their careers but the AFL shouldn't just be able to pluck players at the last minute to the detriment of the SANFL clubs who put in the effort to develop player via junior grades and also attract recruits from other states which takes time and significant cost - not just in match payments.
Whilst part of the SANFL clubs charters are to develop players and give them an opportunity at the highest level, each club still strives to be the best it can within it's own league and that means maintaining the best and strongest list it can within what it appears are more restrictive boundaries!
As pointed out the AFL really don't care about the Leagues around Australia except when they dont get their way and they stick their noses in which they are doing with far more frequency it seems!
If the SANFL Clubs don't make some stand on some of the recent changes or proposed changes (Import rule, Salary Cap etc) an 18 team AFL comp could well drain our comp to the point it may not be the strong stand alone league it currently is if the ADFL can just do what it likes?

On what is good for footy or how to respond to other posters?
Remember the monies the SANFL divide up every year come from AFL games at Footy Park. You dont bite the hand that feeds you.
I doubt the SANFL will ever choose to take a stand against the AFL on any issue, perhaps generational change at SANFL head quarters might change things. Sadly, I doubt it.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
If you want to go far, go together.

At least off the rails seems to have retracted the stupid bit. An yes, it was a simplistic response - not everything has to be convoluted, spiteful, condescending and negative

Flipper's already played AFL. 4 games for the Swans in 2006.

Does that apply to your beloved Magpies where it seems the 2 Port clubns want a different set of rules applied?
Truth be known the AFL dividend acounts for a reasonably small part of most clubs incomes and in North's case at present based on revenue from it's two gaming venues losing $400 - $450K from SANFL dividends would make a very small dent only. Do yourself a favour and get hold of the SANFL Clubs Financial returns for each season and read where the real revenue is that keeps the SANFL clubs where they are presently at? Alot of the SANFL dividend also goes back into zone and junior delvelopment as agreed between the Commission and the AFL - not necessarily with 100 percent support from the clubs who despite getting a good $$ figure each year are basically told how to spend it!
Not saying that it is not greatly appreciated but remember the SANFL and Football Park is not just about 2 AFL licences and revenues to those clubs - if it was not for the league pre Crows Days and the SANFL building the asset would the Crows and Power be as they are today playing in the AFL? I think moving forward if the SANFL and SACA get into bed with the AO saga then Football may be the real loser in terms of money from the gate with the SACA the biggest winner.
Anyhow a whole different arguement than the original topic point.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Imagine if they got the chance to fulfil AFL ambitions without also screwing the season's plans of their SANFL clubs.
Once again the cavalier attitude of the AFL runs roughshod over the rest of the sport. I do not understand why you people willingly follow that sad excuse for a football league.

Re: Another kick in the face from the AFL
Isn't the AFL looking after themselves and not helping leagues below them exactly what the SANFL has been doing for years too?
We live in a free country with a free economy.
I don't see the issue.

Re: Another kick in the face from the AFL
A positive for the league would be that more players would stay in the SANFL system longer rather than chase $$ in the regional leagues, knowing that there is a chance for a shot at AFL.

Re: Another kick in the face from the AFL
firstly i read the story & it only says vfl....but we know it'll go all over australia if it happens
this happened to central in the mid 1990's with tony lynn & may've cost central a premiership
this as mentioned could ruin a teams season before it starts, just imagine if say 4 blokes from one team all got picked up, that'd be a lot of talent & experience gone
surely it is time that all state leagues stand up TOGETHER & say enough is enough & after all it is supposed to be ''a game of the people for the people'' NOT a game for the power hungry afl moguls & their franchises.......perhaps ''emporer gary''
can lead the charge & have all sanfl, vfl, wafl etc etc clubs not playing afl listed players in either the league or reserves teams & see what they do then..TIME TO STAND UP
