Yep, was there all day also. Amazing how quiet the stands were actually, not a worry finding a seat at any stage. Went up to watch the equestrian events for a while, and no more than 50 people up there.

AB - were they the same ducks walking around with waistcoats and bowler hats that afternoon? I had to blink twice when that display walked past

Driving home from Elizabeth yesterday evening I reckon maybe half a dozen intersections had lights out. Coppers were directing traffic at hand at the major ones. Got home to find the house in darkness. The kids were listening to disco music on the MP3 player (with a battery powered speaker) and dancing around the lounge room in candlelight. The power had gone out at 3 PM apparently, and wasn't restored until 9 PM.

This morning I discovered why the power was out. This was just around the corner:

I actually love it when it rains this much.

Living in the Torrens Gorge for nearly 20 years, there's only been 3 occassions when the river has had any water to speak of ... in 1996, 2005 and now.

Water going over the spillway at Kangaroo Creek reservoir and the Gorge weir, a raging Torrens ... all great sights.

The only (considerable) downside is that the footbridges get washed away so we can't go for out normal walks!

Also on the positive side, being in the Gorge means that we're in the controlled flood protection zone, not like the poor buggers a few Kms downstream where the river narrows considerably.

Anyone know if the reservoir at Myponga has been let out? I remember one time when it got let out when I was a kid, we went down the beach to make sure our shack was OK and the creek was nearly up to the bridge - it's usually about 3m below. The whole path of its flow was altered afterwards and it stayed that way for years. Very very cool.
