Twelve teams in the SANFL

Postby Sojourner » Thu Jan 25, 2007 9:51 pm

How would it be if we went back to 1877 to the founding of the SANFL and had the original 12 sides rather than the current competition?

South Adelaide and Port Adelaide would stay the same, and although not the same club the Cocks could take the spot of the old North Adelaide, The Eagles - Woodville, Centrals could be Gawler and maybe the Crows reserves could be the Adelaide Football Club? At least we could have a go at Victoria each week! 8)

From Wikipedia,

In 1877, 12 of South Australia's football clubs met to develop a uniform set of rules and establish a governing body. They formed the South Australian Football Association, the first governing body of its type for football in Australia, and adopted rules similar to those used in Victoria. The inaugural 1877 season was contested by those 12 clubs: South Park, Willunga, Port Adelaide, Adelaide, North Adelaide, Prince Alfred College, Gawler, Kapunda, Bankers, Woodville, South Adelaide and Victorian.

But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.

My understanding is that West Adelaide adopted the colours and strip of the defunct Adelaide FC.

You'd think PAC would pump themselves up a bit more for this..

If PAC was a Catholic school like Christian Brothers College

Maybe for heritage week some of those clubs that are still going could play curtain raisers for the SANFL. Willunga vs Gawler could be the game before South vs Central that week.

And where do you propose the ressies paly that weekend? Despite some good lateral thinking on some topics you seem to let yourself down with some really dumb ideas!
