And at what stage are the players accountable? Coaches and selectors can't go out in the middle and make runs for them. Sacking the coach is a football thing because it's easier to sack one person than 20. I'd hate to see that enter into cricket. There's far more to coaching than win/loss ratios.

Hear what ur saying AH, but rightly or wrongly, once you hit elite levels there aint too much more important than W/L Ratio's and Silverware

Not sure how to break this to you CP, but Pura Cup is not the elite level of cricket, it's a breeding ground for the Test and ODI teams.

 lol yeah thanks for that ... Obviously it's not but it's getting quite close don't you think?

Come on AH what errors have a look at the player MT79 has put
up in capitals in his post. starst with E
Pick only 2 quicks v VI on a seaming pitch at Adelaide oval selected
The apparent mishandling of Blewett.
The non selection of Cleary is baffling
Selecting a grossly overweight cricketer
The retenion of a wicketkeeper who has been underpeforming for so long
Dropping Ferguson who as a batting average far superior to a 35 yo has been.
I dont know who tinkers with the batting order but players have been unsettled by it
Just a few

MT79 is advocating a new coach.....todays advertiser report vindicates his judgement.

It's easy to judge in hindsight, but how many of us would have made the very same selections?
Elliott had to be chosen, and he made runs early on, so they've been giving him every chance to prove himself. His retention in the team of late has been because of Boof's absence.
No guarantees Cleary would have been successful.
Cosgrove is an ACB contracted player, and they would be making it very difficult for the Redbacks selectors to drop him from the team.
I don't know of any "mishandling" of Blewett ... do you? All I've heard is lot of whingeing from Blewett.
Seaming pitch at Adelaide? Really?
The selectors gave Manou every chance and have now dropped him through lack of form, as they have done with Ferguson, and as they will do with Elliott once Lehmann returns.
As for "tinkering" with the bating order ... wouldn't you? It hasn't worked at all, so they have to try something.
Be fair ... to blame selectors for the way the Redbacks have played is to ignore the real reasons, all of which I have addressed at length in earlier posts.

SKEWES BATS 3 IN A 20/20 GAME MAKES 79 OFF 60 BALLS, BATS 6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
D HARRIS MAKES RUNS OPENING GETS DEMOTED TO 4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
COSGROVE has batted everywhere this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats called tinkereing....skewes and harris were starring and THEN got demoted
LEHMANN the best bat bats too low

As for seaming pitches WHERE have you been this year, I suggest you look at the
spinners efforts compared to the seamers.
Adelaide oval has been a haven for quicker bowlers in p/cup this year.
If you dont beleive me look at our batting away from Adelaide oval in the
matches in sydney/hobart/melbourne WE BATTED A LOT BETTER.

ELLIOTT had to be chosen BULLSHIT look at his p/cup form last year as well.

AND HOW THE HELL DOES FERGUSON GET DROPPED AND ELLIOTT GETS RETAINED ????

of course the players have to be accountable for their form, but why are so many out of form? how are they dropping catches, showing no spirit - are they training too much, not enough, inefficiently??? all these aspects are controlled by the coach. with an experienced side you would think the players would know what to do to get back into form, but with the young squad SA have got surely they need some guidance...and im sure this is what the coach if for...but then again maybe i got the whole thing wrong... iall in all ive lost all confience in the current regime.

QUOTE ADELAIDE HAWK
" Elliott had to be chosen."
Yes he made runs this year in the 50 over games BIG DEAL wrong format.

Lets have a review of the dud AH is saying should have been retained PURA CUP

LAST SEASON

20-2-5-23-6-11-16-18 a magnificent 96 in 8 innings

THIS SEASON

19-7-0-6-43-81-0-9-16-4-9-3 an astonishing 194 runs in 12 innings

290 runs at an average of 14

Take away that 43 +81 in hobart and its embarrasing
that would an average of less than 10

And they dropped Ferguson before him , give me a break

It is time to sack Elliot. Does nothing with the bat and has handed Victoria an outright win with a terrible declaration and terrible bowling changes... Fat Cosgrove has bowled 13 overs while Dizzy has only 10 and Tait 13. Straight after tea too, so they have had a rest. Instead we will probably hand him a lucrative 5 year contract.

Excerpt from cricinfo article on yorkshire's upcoming season"The former Australian opener, Matthew Elliott, has joined Yorkshire for the 2007 season as cover for Pakistan's Younis Khan. Elliott is due to arrive in early April, while Younis is still involved with the World Cup, and will be with the Yorkshire squad in time to face Surrey in the County Championship curtain-raiser at The Oval.

Currently in a rich vein of form :?: , the left-handed Elliott last played for Yorkshire in 2002 where he joined the club mid-way through the season as a replacement for his fellow Australian, Darren Lehmann.Elliott has enjoyed a fine season with South Australia :?: where he has recently been captain in place of the injured Lehmann. He has averaged over 52 in the Ford Ranger Cup, including two impressive centuries, and scored 55 for South Australia against an England XI in November last year before falling to Monty Panesar.

Could be advertiser journalism if I didnt know better  ...Talk about artistic licence :!:

Rich vein of POOR form.

Elliott has NOT enjoyed his FINAL season with South Australia.

He has averaged over 5.2 in the Ford Ranger Cup.

So you wanted Ferguson to captain the team? Good call. Mal, you really need to think before you post sometimes.

AH I can see your point ELLIOTT was the only one who could captain however,
my point with FERGUSON is that he was dropped as a batsman before ELLIOTT
that stinks.

After the debacle v VI where he bowled COSGROVE for 23 overs...
HE JUST ABOUT COST US THE GAME WITH HIS INEPTNESS

Dont think it was wrong to drop Ferguson - He has been the golden boy of SA for 3 years now. He hasnt made a useful contribution this season. They have made numerous personel changes and unfortunately dropping Elliott wasnt one of them.
You can If you believe you can

If Elliott is retained for the next match, I'll be very interested in what mally posts. I reckon he might just blow a gasket. I reckon Elliott will be retained as well and he will over bowl Cosgrove again. And I thought Katich was bad.....

Ponder this
2008/2009
ELLIOTT retired
why not play FERGUSON instead he might just get a big 100 and 2008/2020 play for SA

FERGUSON has scored about 5 half centurys the last 2 years
ELLIOTT one

FERGUSON got dropped and probably fair enough for a lack of big innings
WHAT GIVES ME THE SHITS is he should have been dropped after ELLIOTT.
Before the vacated captaincy came up.

Geez mal, you use the term guru pretty loosley :)

Pretty hard to defend Elliott. He simply is no longer up to it. It is actually pretty sad to watch a once fine player continue to fail over and over. If he doesn't give it away soon he'll be remembered more for his embarrassing decline rather than the superb player he once was.
