a day at the races what a sham!

Postby stampy » Sat Jan 27, 2007 5:40 pm

today i conned the wife into taking the kids to morphettville for a family day out, that was the first mistake. Let me say that i havent been at morphetville for about 5-6 years so i wasnt expecting what we got. $9 to get in i thought shit, maybe i am out of touch and i thought it was very quiet as we walked thru the tramstop gate, my first shock was there was no bookies downstairs, in fact NO BLOODY ANYTHING OPEN DOWNSTIRS AT ALL. Wheres the entertainment for the kis the darl asked? um.........i dont know honey i replied unable to comprehend the lack of any action at our premier racetrack, theres some lawn over there I offered but to no avail. I was spewing no place to put a bet on, no bar, no nothing, so i went upstairs "where the action was" - which would have been great if i was with me mates but absolutely shithouse for someone with wife and 3 kids in tow. i put a bet on, grabbed a beer and ventured back down stairs to the brood and suggested we watch the race , walked down the the end of the newer stand only to be greeted with a stern "members only" as i tried to find somewhere on the grass near the winning post, i lost my patience and told the official that the place was a hole. SA racing is in despair and i know why, from what i saw today it is catering to a small clientele which i might add will not sustain the sport in this state - you only have to look at prizemoney - we are the laughing stock of australia not only at the gallops but also at harness and chasing, i was in perth earlier this month and this is the comparison, perth saturday races minimum $45000 prizemoney per race, harness min $14500 per race, dogs $5000 per race now compare that to our piddly prizemoney and i ask WTF is going on in south australia? can anyone tell me? Today was a huge disappointment and we as a family will not be going back, we went to cannington they had a jumping castle, velcro wall and a merry go-round for the kids which i am told is there every meeting, what do we get here - RIPPED OFF and nothing else Racing in this state is rooted!!!!!!!

STAMPY
What you have posted comes as no surprise, we on this forum have been
bagging SA racing for a while now.
At the risk of repeating myself, administrators are being paid exhorbitant
wages and are simply not producing.
The older generation of punters are literally dying off these days and the
younger people are not replacing them.
The future is young people , young familys and what you got for $9 is an
absolute rip off.
If you scroll thru previous pages you will read several topics on racing in SA.

Meanwhile STAMPY and family are possibly lost forever and ever.
The alternative, stay home and watch the cricket and marvel at the magnificance
of Stuart Clark

stampy if you look at the advertising they want young singles there (playtime trackside) & this is working, they're not interested in you, me or the like

how do i know i hear you ask, well we get all these cocktail dresses in for cleaning & the usual alcohol spillage & when i've made the comment (on numerous times) you must have had a big night ?, you get no i was at the races & can this be ready for saturday i'm going to the races again (it is the trendy place to be my friend)
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

look weve talked about this before..... its hard to compare us with perth.... we simply dont have the money available and that boils down to no crowds and low punting turnover.... the SAJC will not spend money to make money and that is a shame.....
fancy having to pay to go in the races..... with all the punting and tv options available its no wonder numbers at the track are dwindling....
stampy ..... I AM SORRY U FEEL THIS WAY........ it is a perfect example of what is happening to the industry here..... wheres the incentive to go to the track thesedays????

ag there is no incentive for me to take the family to the track hence we wont be going back, bayman i am not so sure about it being a trendy place for singles, i saw a few blokes drinking coronas and crownies but nothing like "its the place to be" or any trendy stuff happening, just another case of hopeless promotion from the SAJC (i know interstate clubs have created a monster in regards to this so maybe not the way to go) Look, the bottom line is racing in this state is stuffed, i hate saying this but its true and it has to come down to the incompetents running the show ag says we cant compare to perth, why the f**K cant we, when i was there previously 3 years ago racing was on its knees over there and they have turned it around but ploubidis and his cronies say its too hard, to them i say F**K OFF!!!!!! and give the job to someone with a bit of flair and entrepenurial(?) know how, we are left behind in too many areas in this state, bring someone like singo and his mates in and let him shag the shit out of the industry at least we wont die off without a yelp.

Stampy, You really should shoot off an email/letter to the SAJC...see what reply you get, they should surely be concerned about a family keen on the sport not coming back....let us know how you go...

Stampy, couldn't agree with you more. I have tried a couple of times to get the kids out of the house and take them to the races be it Morphetville of Cheltenham and after about half an hour they are bored shitless, there's nothing for them to do and then the whinging starts.

If you are into racing, I suggest you take them to a country meeting like Strathalbyn where kids are catered for with face painting, blow up castles, etc, etc. Strath and other clubs like Balaklava really do show the city tracks how to cater for families.

did you ever see the TABFORM while you were in WA?

What did you think of their 'favourite numbers' bet type, bit like x-lotto on the horses!!!!!!

Must endorse your post 100%
Little FeMALe loves Globe Derby in the summer cups carnival, she loves all the
rides, aniMAL shows, go karts, face painting etc.
When I mention its carnival time she jumps up and begs me to take her.
Ive taken her friends and quite often other families come as well.
Its a real snowball effect.
Racetracks need to be family orientated 52 weeks of the year not for one or two
meetings per year.
I would never take my family to Morphetville for $18 for 2 adults and then have
to manufacture enterntainment for the kid all day

yes mt79 i did get the tabform while i was over there, i was introduced to an old fella who loves the way they display the ratings at the top of the page and he picks his quaddies from them and wins BIG money on a regular basis, the daily paper's coverage is phenomenal as well in particular their coverage of cannington, glossy park, leaves our coverage for dead and they devote a full page to overseas racing, just another case of everything leaving us for dead in the way the consumer gets treated.

STAMPY

did you listen to there TABRADIO much?

It was quite interesting to hear the reviews of the saturdays racing and the previews and they are big on where horses were in the run and in particular on the home turn and how fast the last sectionals were.

they really do a good full preview for there local meetings.

follow the TABFORM ratings and you really cant go wrong, they are phenomenal.

its PUNTERS PARADISE in PERTH
