I reckon you lot need to export more music...got to be better than the Americanised crap we get.

Ask most people over here about Aussie music and, depending on their age you'll probably get Rolf, the Minogues, Jason Donovan and poor, poor little Peter 'read about my heartbreak in the Sunday rag' Andre

If you're very lucky some might remember 'Land Down Under' by Men At Work. I even know people who are adamant that AC/DC are a geordie band :?

Please save us from Simon-bloody-Cowell and SuBo ;)

From the 80's The Go Betweens, The Triffids, The Saints, The Laughing Clowns, Scientists and of course The Birthday Party all have sizeable followings in the UK....you just don't hear them on commercial classic hits radio.

Fairy snuff...The Triffids sounds familiar and weren't The Saints a punk (never my thing) band. Personally I don't do commercial radio but I'm sure most of them would have been on the the late and great John Peel's radio shows on the BBC radio.

Gees FC you pick their one song that was a commercial radio hit....

How about....
The back upon which Jezza Jumped - About Jezza's mark in the 1970 VFL Grand Final
Mornington Ride - All about catching the train along the Mornington Penisula
The history of Western Civilization - Piss take of the western suburbs
Father and Son - About a F&S who are St Kilda fanatics.
The Phillip Ruddock Blues

That's for starters....and they did the National Anthem ;)

I only know 2 of their songs - that and Greg the stop sign

Mind You, I don't ever recall hearing that song on the radio, the only reason I knew it was it was on a CD I bought back in the 90's.

and until a few days ago I thought they were American

TISM...that brings back some memories.

Many, many moons ago, I decided to go to the D&D Ball that is now held at Wayville Showgrounds, but at that time, was at Adelaide Gaol. The way it worked was you paid your fee, outlined all of your likes and dislikes on a vast range of things, and a computer matched you up with someone supposedly "similar" to you.

The letter arrives, with the contact details of the blind date (this was back in about 1994 or so), so I ring and we chat away for a while, seems nice enough, got a few things in common and then we start talking music and our favorite acts. She lists off hers and says TISM among them. I mishear it slightly.

"Chisel? Yeah, I love Chisel, got all of their albums and always love their music, that's nice that you are into them" etc etc etc.

"No. TISM. The guys with masks" (at the time, I was writing for Rip It Up and knew their stuff)

"Ahh...oops"

An interesting night, that date :)
