Watch this space - you are 100% correct with this assessment Sojourner with the exception that Mike wants more than he can get so that when the shit hits the fan (and it will soon enough) he can blame the Federal Govt for not helping out when he asked them too.

And dont forget the state labour governments are doing everything they can to make life miserable for the Howard govt with the next election so close.

It wont surprise me one bit if Labor do manage to win it Federally making it Labor all over Australia, State and Federal. I dont know if that has happened before but it will be interesting to see how Rudd and co handle all the expectations for increased funding and no pressure to remove state taxes that were supposed to have been removed when the GST came in.

I am tipping though that Gillard will soon be moved into the top spot after the election, the Left in Labor have gotten alot stronger in recent months and with a good showing at the election could soon end several right wingers in the party.

It will be interesting to see if increased spending puts up interest rates, I think that will be so, yet they have to win it first!

I'm not sure that Morris Iemma is over the line yet Sojourner - they have had scandal after scandal in NSW in particular, and QLD and VIC have had a few scandles too. SA has had its scandals but the opposition haven't been enable to milk them as well as they might of. For example, a serving and senior labour mp allegedly being a kiddy fiddler, a number of other MPs allegedly being closet homosexual and bi-sexual but not prepared to legalise same sex marriages; no upgrade to the Britannia roundabout because it will take 70 trees from the parklands but instead its ok to take 70 trees for a stupid tram extension; public transport and infrastructure woes and cost blowouts; an abominable state of affairs within FamiliesSA as far as child protection issues go; no upgrades to build more courts or hire more legal staff but we'll change law and order legislation AFTER problems arise; one drug testing kit in the state; I could go on all night but water is a serious issue and as I said, watch that space because it will soon be more publicly serious than the public already realise.............dire in fact.

So far Rann is refusing to sign on to the Federal and State Co-operative. It would be better if he just said no outright and got on with his plans of all the states working together to solve the problem.

I would like to see how in reality Mike Rann is going to unite all the states to work together to solve the problems with the River Murray in a better way than the Federal - State Co-operative could do. Considering that Qld Premier Peter Beattie has just awarded a number of new licenses for cotton and rice farmers to take mega litres out of the system, how is Mike Rann going to fund a buy back scheme for those licenses?

It will be interesting to see how Rann justifies refusing the Federal Governments offer of help if the drought continues and no action is taken on his plan, so far we have 11 million unused from the Save the River Murray Levy which is a continuing charge and a looming debt for the Wellington Weir which is a complete waste of funds.

As much as i would like that, its just not true, the Left are along way from gaining control of the federal or any state party.


oh and squark a scandel has to be something that isn't a unfounded baseless allegation or just a policy you dont like. Pretty much everything you listed fits into one of the two. I mean how can only having 1 drug testing RBT in the state be a scandal!!! its a f'n test program. even if it wasn't, how is that a scandal?!?
