Im not denying that Bodyline was a carefully, expertly executed game plan
Done legitimately within the laws of the day
However my posey is yes it blunted the Don
But why was it used on the other players ?
I may be able to help with this. Apparently after they dismissed Bradman in one innings, Gubby Allen questioned Jardine as to why they kept bowling Bodyline. Jardine's response was something like, "Mr Bradman is still watching". I guess the plan was to get into Bradman's mind.
Having said that, there were many periods where the tactic wasn't deployed, such as the 1st Innings in the Brisbane Test, the two openers Woodfull and Richardson put on 133 and for the greater part no Bodyline field was used. Once again, I think Jardine's plan was to lull Bradman into a false sense of security after the events of the Adelaide Test, and attempts to have Jardine cease using the tactic.
And, as I said previously, no bodyline field was in place when Woodfull and Oldfield wer struck in Adelaide.
