Grade 1 seem to get the same umpires each week. How many official umpires are there at the moment. I know some will not be up to the challenge but I think they could do a better job than the umps we have. By far the best umpire we have had would have been super. Great bloke and has played cricket this century.
Do umpires have to go through retaining at all after they complete their umpires course or do they train on better ways to move around to get into position, Their concentration levels and so forth. We as players train to make our game better maybe the umpires should be made to do courses to keep their jobs.
I also think that us players should have a players committee so we can express things from a playing level not from a club prospective. I know there would be a few things that I would like to bring forward between players without the PDCA and umpires being involved.
OCK: The no ball of the pitch was a disgrace we all know that. 4 or 5 LBW's were passed down. The run out there was no hope of Fanta being given out as Merlin was still getting into position to make the call and wasn’t even looking at the time.
I have put at least 5 serious reports about an umpire in, in my time in outdoor cricket.
During the game, i did not say a word to them about the level of their umpiring.. Never have i heard of anything being done about any of them, and i have regularly seen or heard of those umpires umpiring the next week or the following weeks. Are these taken seriously. Does anyone read them and think that a punishment or a lower grade is worthwhile? Doubt it, instead there is nothing done and the frustration continues to grow.
If the shoe is on the other foot and we are reported for bad behavior or abuse towards an umpire, we get rubbed out for a couple, while the incompetent person is free to umpire the next game. There is no justice in reporting them for bad work. If the umpires are not controlled byt he PDCA, then they should take control at the mid way point of the year, cant be hard for someone to coordinate the umpires schedules. Even record some data, like scores out of 10 for performance in categories (LBA, wides, general knowledge etc) and then schedule them accordingly.
