Next one I'm invited to coincides with Round 1 of the SANFL. Yet another reason to hate the bloody things!

Is it poor form to miss the ceremony and rock up to the reception only?
PS As an aside I've been with my partner for 21 years non stop.

I too have a wedding on that day, and will be doing the "miss the ceremony but attend the reception" thingy....

Our wedding song was If I Could - 1927

The Bride 'meee' - lol - arrived a few minutes early - the Groom and groomsmen where in a small room off the garden watching the VFL grandfinal - and had to scramble to their positions before I walked 'down the isle'

Remind her of the old tradition that the Bride's parents pay for the wedding and reception.LMA wrote:Got married on the last day of summer 2004. Married by a celebrant on the grass at north haven marina then the reception back at my house. Our house had a big pergola overlooking a nice landscaped back yard, so we had tables set up everywhere for people who wanted to sit and i hired some bar tables for the booze area, also had speakers rigged outside for the music . I bought around 25 cartons of beer and some wine and hired a 3 capsule coctail machine, which was a hit. For food we just got cold meats, salad, prawns, oysters etc and desserts. All up for everything cost about $5500, including celebrant, photographer and wedding dress, not for everyone but if you don't want to spend too much money and your house is accommodating enough I'd recommend.
I think a wedding should reflect the type of people you are and not just a put on event because it's expected or to keep others happy. Me and the missus enjoy a party in a relaxed atmosphere and that's exactly what we got, with a reception which included breakfast and a sunday session
PS: saying that though If the wife to be wants the whole big thing, than what can you do ? I got lucky

I think the Groom or his family hires the coaches or cars, but I'm not sure now?

Was in the ballroom at The Palais at Semaphore on Feb 6th 1999. Twelve years coming up at the end of the week.
Our wedding song was to be Led Zeppelin "Thankyou", as it turns out the CD got left home and we ended up with Celine Dion and her Titanic number.
