Why are people looking into this game as anything semi serious?

And yes, i'm a Crows man also.

Any SANFL team would do well to get within 250 points of an AFL team in a serious game.

Well according to some posters on this site Centrals would beat Carlton at Elizabeth

No chance. I was thinking of Carlton when I said 250 points. Against a top 8 AFL team it would be more like 300+

I know it's only a trial, but I'm with wide-receiver on this one. All this does is leave the SANFL looking like a pathetic competition. What is said after the game and around town is the Adelaide Crows thrashed an SANFL team by 180 points. People will be thinking that SANFL football is a joke. I'm not all that pleased to have Norwood representing the SANFL and if they can't be even a little competitive, then what's the point? I hope this game is scrapped for good.

Norwood finished well out of the 5 last year- I don't think they do themselves any favours by being flogged like this.

Surely not from the same person who wrote this...

wide receiver wrote:Norwood were impressive tonight. Sure the crows didn't have a full strength squad, but Norwood lacked a few players as well. Norwood was very good in the midfield, with players really prepared to back themselves and go the hard ball.

...just twelve short months ago after the game in 2006.

You didn't seem to hate the concept then.

This is where you both miss the point. Norwood aren't representing the SANFL and the point of this match has never been for it to a SANFL vs. AFL fixture.

So what are the points of this game..

1. Shake off the cobwebs for both clubs
2. Coaches of both clubs to experiment in a game when the result is truly immaterial
3. Get some bums on seats at Norwood Oval
4. Give people a chance to see some footy being played again

I'd say all four objectives have been reached. A large winning margin just does not matter in this game. I'd like to suggest that the following is more likely to make the SANFL look like a joke...

1. Losing to the VFL in state games. They don't get as much coin as top SANFL players so there is no real excuse for this to happen. Yep, the VFL is a good league but the SANFL is better and shouldn't ever drop this matches in my opinion (btw, I am well aware this only happened once but to me this was 'red faces' time).
2. The 'Slowdown' being played at the same time as the Grand Final and generating more publicity and drawing a similar crowd. Fair dinkum, this does far more 'damage' to the SANFL's credibility than a February practice match.
3. People who wouldn't be jack 5hit today without the SANFL turning their backs on the league to become AFL only supporters. We all know who they are.
4. The media 'coverage' of the SANFL. Where do these journos think the Crows and Power came from orginally. Do your research dipshits.

On one hand you are saying 'I know it's only a trial' and then in the same post you go on to state that Norwood is representing the SANFL! I agree that a SANFL vs. AFL would be of little value BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS MATCH IS ABOUT.

Two games out and wins against Central and North in our last starts against those clubs. No question we've got work to do but when we are at the bottom of our cycle we have collected one spoon only and won a lot more matches than when North were at the bottom of theirs.

REB, 2 points-
1) Bottom is bottom.
2) Norwood aren't representing the SANFL?- Yes & no.
They are by default, just the same way Champion Player A & B represent their club when they go out for a night on the town,
They aren't representing the SANFL, as they are not a true indication of the strength of the SANFL in general.

In the context of last season 2 wins was a lot and could easily described as well out.
Norwood were a step behind the Bays who in turn were a step behind South.
