Not saying this will stop player payments this does not faze me, if you can afford to do it good luck to you but it will give the league an indication as to which clubs are struggling financially and steps can be put in place to get them up and running properly...Paralowie perfect example.

A couple of reasons:
1) The enormous cost of it, and that just comes back to the clubs with extra costs. Would be close to $200,000 per year to have someone on retainer, and that would have to be divided between the clubs..........
2) Providing all monies owed to SAAFL are paid, it is none of their business really.

However, it may not be a bad idea for clubs to have to supply their audited annual figures to SAAFL when nominating teams for the following season.

The facility may exist already, I don't know, but if clubs could seek guidance from the SAAFL Executive if they felt things were closing in - that may save some going too far & hitting the wall.

As someone has already mentioned & ask much as we may not like them, player payments are here to stay & they must be to avoid being raped by country leagues. They have to be treated like a budget though, clubs need to work out what they can afford to pay & stick to it, regardless of whether it will give them the success they are chasing or not.

I for one would not want the SAAFL looking over my clubs books

What organisation anywhere has the right to look over its paying affiliates books?

Jumping at shadows here people

Lets remember that Smithfield did not go under for financial reasons alone if at all, it was due to players being poached

It would be an excuse for them to pump up fees if they can see that clubs are doing ok

Pretty good question there have been plenty of stories of clubs being close to the wall but trading out.

Burnside Kensington or was that a lack of players?

In a roundabout way Greek Football Club maybe.

RIP PSSC.

I've been at Paralowie since I was 18 (coming across from SN) and I kid you not, you could not find a better bunch of motley b*stards to play with. Sure we copped some hidings and didnt really have alot of skills but the friendships formed through toughing it out on the park will definately last forever. I owe PSSC alot of time and effort for all the sh*t it was put through when I was given a life barring from the SAAFL. Without their help, god knows what I would've become!

Looking back now, we definately had a fair few "out there" players in my time. Turbo being the one that pops up straight away. Alot of you will remember him, left footer, always talking shit to the opposition and their crowd.

In the end, not having any juniors for the past 3 or 4 years, i think, really hurt us. You have to have as many people as you can at or around the club. Many hands make light work. Simple as that.

It's gonna be interesting to see where all the lads im mates with at PSSC will play this year. I know a couple will head out to Mawsons Lakes and a few will be heading out to North Pines.

As for me, I dont see my appeal going any further for the time being so I guess its back upto Peake!

Western Warriors? Or was that due to player exodus?

I'd be careful with that sort of comment if I were you, and make it 'allegedly'

What should you be careful about, if you were i?

Apart from my spelling?

they were struggling at the start of 2006, our first year in the comp and then their secretary who as understand it was the heart and soul of the club had a heart attack watching world cup soccer i believe the week of round 10 and that was pretty well it. i think they already had pulled their b grade prior to that and then the a's went as well.

On player payments, i have never been paid to play nor been worthy of any payments, but if a club pays players do they have to declare this payment? how many players would then declare thier payment as income? or do they even need to? I used to work a second job on the weekends and had to pay $0.30 in the dollar i think it was or there abouts, this surely would not be any different for a footballer? If they do have to claim and pay tax, are they then able to claim expenses ie boots, rego, travel??

Yes, if they are paying tax they can even claim driving to and from training from their other job, entry to the ground (hills and country), boots, socks, etc
