I was watching the WATSON innings that I taped

AU 5/346 wow

WATSON 68[69] good innings until ripped off by a poor umpiring decision
HAYDEN 181* [166] that will get his knockers shutting up for a while.
HADDIN 38[31 majestic as always a genuine talent

The rest came in with 11 overs to spare norMALly when WATSON comes in and.....
HODGE 12[10]
HUSSEY13[8]
WHITE13[8]
VOGES 16*[10] on debut well done

Could not expect much more could we.

I just hope all the WATSON critcics can see what i have been saying about
players who bat at 7 [or with 10 overs left] and what you can expect.

Did we also see the NZ 5th bowler
STYRIS+ MCcosiLLAN 10 OVERS 0/80
The 3 NZ 5TH bowlers last game 11 overs 1/120 odd

I dont give a hoot anymore about whats posted
Today proved a point
a number 7 batter + 5th bowler who averages 30 is doing a good job in o/d games

And he is not a HACK.

Seriously mal, enough with the f*cking averages. Cheap wickets in junk time like Watson got on Sunday will inflate his average. A players average with the bat or ball is not a true indication of his worth. Watson does not bowl up to international standard. This has been demonstrated time and time again.

WATSON during his first over
Commentator says

" Pretty impressive stats by WATSON averaging 32 with the bat and ball
and very good economy going at less than 5 an over."

ROD you cannot possibly have it both ways
The last 2 games have been on small grounds on batting pitches
TODAY you are saying oh he made 68 on a batting pitch.....
On Sunday he took cheap wickets.....

****************ONE OF THOSE EFFORTS MUST BE GOOD.*****************

HE outscored
HODGE-HUSSEY-WHITE- today who all made less than 20...........

Seems as though there's plenty of analysis taking place based on either isolated instances or short periods of time in this discussion.

Doesn't Gilly miss the first few WC matches? If so, will Watson remain Haydens opening partner til' Gilly is back?

Fair call CP.

That would make things interesting wouldn't it.

I didn't realise Gilchrist was unavailable - which gives Watson a fair bit of time to press his claims at the top of the order.
It seems Gilly and Symonds will be coming back in at around the same time - suggesting Watson and Haddin will be safe for a few games early on.

Watson and Johnson have been absolutely smashed by Fulton and McMillan but Watson just took a wicket.

Fulton out for 51 (40)

Watson 1/27 (2.5)
Johnson 1/43 (4)

Watson is getting bent over badly. I used to think he was a handy bowler in one dayers but now he seems absolutely useless.

2x6s and a 4 off that last over from him

1/43 off 4
that is a caning and he he really needs to improve if he is going to bowl in the world cup

Sir Shane 4 overs 1 for 43... HACK!!!!!

If both he and Johnson play in the same side at the World Cup we are knackered... Agree that they have got age on their side but seriously they are very very overrated..

Johnson is having a very bad day. Bowling terrible and in the field well enough said.

Watson. This spell sums up his bowling. Got a wicket purely cos the guy got himself out. It wasn't due to anything he did. That is pretty much how he gets most of his wickets. He doesn't create a lot of chances. The most damning thing that sums up Watson as a bowler though is that all, yes all, the runs scored off him have been through the leg side. Surely a bowler at International level should not go for 43 runs in 4 overs all through the leg side. Disgraceful. He is certainly reasonable with the bat (not anywhere near the top 6 options for Australia but still handy) but as a bowler he is just terrible.

That's more indicative of how badly Australia have done rather than Watson doing any good. He seriously is not up to bowling at International level.

I am reserving judgement on Johnson because I haven't seen a lot of him. I've heard some good things about him, but from what I've seen I haven't been very impressed. He must save his best for when I'm not watching.
