Yeah that caper really pisses me off. These days you almost always have to ask what the meal comes with otherwise you end up with a piece of steak or a filet of fish or whatever looking lonely on the plate.

I used to go there with friend's who lived at Rosewater, but they've moved. They weren't charging extra for salad or veg back then [pre-1999]

Thai place on Gouger Street isn't it?

Always wanted to take the missus there, she loves Thai food but living just off The Parade, we live about 500m from Chaabar which is great food and service and value.

I love their entree Chicken Satay sticks, so much so, when we went their for dinner last night and I didn't feel like my usual chicken pad thai, I had 2 serves of the satays as my main :D

Always enjoy a good feed and get value for money when dining at The Bath as well...

Thats the one BP, awesome!

Right, went to Gaucho's on Gouger last night. Put simply - AWESOME.

The steak was melt in the mouth, the Morton Bay bugs huge and although a costly exersice it was, and all 4 on the table agreed, as good a meal as you could possibly ask for. I'm happy to pay $40 for a steak and $20 for Bug entree if you get this sort of size bug! 3 of them as entree!!!

Beautiful setting, lovely local wine - the basket press shiraz is to die for and at $24 is a snip. However, you won't get a main under $34 and although the food is really nice, it aint worth that.

I go there quite often as I live up North and the most expensive item they have is the steak for $33. Mains range from $22-33.

Great value:
A lot of places down China town way have excellent value....Ying Chow, Ty Chow, BBQ City, Mapos.
Amalfi pizza bar would be my faovurite eatery in the city. Great value and the best pizza and pasta. Chianti is great value.
Jacks Fish Shack at Glenelg has probably the best value seafood in Adelaide. Capriccios very nice. Port Dock Brewery do a good value meal.
Theres a place in Pt Pirie called Cafe Riva which has the best value meals ive come across in the state.

Poor value:
Star of Greece I felt was over priced for what it is.
Enoteca Cucina is incredibly over priced for what it is. Only time ive ever had a 3 course meal and gone away hungry. Im fine with less is more fine dining, but not to that extent.
Good Life Pizza....great pizza, but it is quite expensive
Lido at Glenelg...over priced for poor ingredients.

Doyle's at Circular Quay ... take away fish & chips from a shop near the wharfs 1,000,000 times better value and tastes alright too.

Those Sydneysiders aren't too smart methinks ...

Gusto on the Parade and Europa down the Bay are two of our favourite places .. Per other posts have eaten Carmine's/Port Pizza plenty of times over the last 20 years and their good is always good (particularly the prawn fettucini), but I've always felt they are well overpriced

Bombay Bicycle Club, either from the Pub menu or the Indian Menu.

Back to the original owners, got a huge 400g schnitzel with kilpatrick, the missus got a curry, with a beer and a cider for $49.50 all up.

Surprised no one has said it yet.

Kefi's on Tapleys Hill rd, Glenelg.
Servings are huge and tasty.
Only problem is you have to book a few weeks in advance to usually get a table!
Another bonus is they do takeaways which are fantastic. Enough food for dinner that night and lunch the next. And this is a man sized serve. (cue ridiculous sized meals)
get on board the thunder train!!!

I rate the Korean BBQ Restuarant on Goodwood Rd.

Their Special Banquet is great value for money - $25 for soup, a serve of spring rolls/curry puffs/sushi, a plate of meat (that you cook yourself on the mini barbecue on the table) with rice/condiments etc (the rice/condiments are bottomless) and fondue.

Also, if it's your birthday, the owner will give you free fried ice cream.

The meal itself is a night out - we average about 3 hours a visit there.
