Danger now is that Casey might take the fame and publicity to far and start to grow an ego of his own.

Now that he would have realised his strength i hope we dont hear about him bullying or starting on another child himself.

I'd doubt it, he didn't wail on that kid, just slammed him and walked away. Seems like a peaceful kid would just wanted to be left alone.

The bully's mother wants an apology from Casey (although to her credit she said her son did ask for it). IMO he has nothing to apologise for, apparently he copped it for years before snapping. They should be thankful he turn into a gun toting psycho after years of mental torture.

I've noticed how much support Casey has been getting online and people posting stories of how they were bullied and the numbers are overwhelming. Surely there's people out there who were like Ritchard there, are they willing to put their hand up and say why they behaved like that?
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Good question Barto. Perhaps if someone does speak up who was such a person, they could also say what made them change.

In my last year of primary school and first year of high school i started being almost like a bully to a couple of kids.
I really had nothing against the kids, it was that no one else liked them and i guess to be honest it was me trying to make a name for myself or a reputation, i mean i was already a fairly popular sort of kid anyway so really wasn't needed, but i did anyway. I still feel so horrible when i think back to those days, at least they were short lived.
I guess it gave me a sense of power, and having so many people watching or supporting or cheering on just heightened that sense.

What made me stop or realise what i was doing was wrong, was a school counsellor pulled me aside one day and told me to put myself in there position, think how they must feel, think about having to go home to my parents crying because i had been bullied, think about having no support, no friends, being all alone.

Tore me up to think and ever since i have always stuck up for the little man or anyone getting picked on.

Im very much ashamed of what i did over those 18 or so months, i guess as a kid you really just don't consider or understand the seriousness and consequences of your actions.

I guess in some sort of defence to the bullies, although some kids know its wrong, they dont understand the reasons behind why its wrong, they are uneducated.
Some kids though are just feral :P

I have to wonder if this is now getting 'way to much' publicity?

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/bully-vic ... 6024845388

As CP said earlier - they are still both Children.

One's become a 'hero' for fighting back.
Probably not a good image to set with other kids being bullied - as it may not 'end as well' as this instance did.

One is being publicly named and shamed, but not just that 'excessive naming and shaming'
What he did isn't right and the publicity may have pulled him into line - but - it's still going on,
what's this doing for his 'self esteem' and emotional level?

I don't know any answers - but I just think it's not being handled very well by the media etc.
my 2c anyway..lol.

The lad speaks quite well:

Hopefully, just before he was suspended the school actually advised him precisely what self defence moves he should have taken in this instance.

Wonder if the bully learnt not to pick on someone twice his size.

Not quite sure what point ACA are trying to make, other than retaliating is the best way to deal with bullying. :?

They didn't do the best job censoring the video - you can hear the phrase "fat c***"

I dare say that ACA cares nothing about making any point.

ACA is trying to sell advertising timeslots, pure and simple. Judging by the interest in this little human interest story, I'd say they were manifestly successful.

Wonder how much of the windfall will find its way into Casey's pockets.

Thanks for posting that GWW.
I didn't get to see it on TV so just watched your link.

Was nothing like what they portrayed in the written story - or how I understood it anyway.

The video has left me with tears - what a delightful young guy Casey seems.

Tears dwelled on several occaisions for me during this video:
The way he said all the support surrounding the video made him feel good because he's never had that much support in his life.
When he said the thing that got him through all these years was his sister.
And his quote at the end to other kids being bullied 'school isn't going to last forever'

Being bullied for your whole school life like he explains - that's heartbreaking.

Thought he spoke well also - no 'cockiness' or attitude - just very sincere.

did anyone see TT interview with the kid who was throwing the punches

he claims - casey started it, and that he is sorry - but that was only after his father sitting out of shot told him to say it

the interview done the kid more harm than good

yeah was very cringe worthy and uncomfortable to watch.

and yeah he is now claiming that casey was verbally bullying him and that is why the footage you saw happened.

think this while it is already out of hand is only going to get alot worse now, i cant see casey or his family/representatives letting this slip through to the keeper without defending his side of the story.
