Every dead heat, results in the total payout being halved - no exception.

I GUARANTEE on the totes if a horse dead heats for a win or place and it's paying under $2 it's a money back situation..... It's a draw so you should get your stake back... It's the world wide rules of betting... No different to a push at the casino...

Im not an expert on the worldwide rules of betting like you are but

it pays a dollar because the tote have a minimum dividend of 1.00 so when it occurs they dont take their full percentage much the same when some horses pay 1.00 the win the amount of money on them means they should be under 1.00. As for a push at the casino if you had backed a football team at evens you would also get your money back under the dead heat rule its because stkilda were long odds on you lose some of your stake, all fixed odds operators work the same way in dead heats and have for a long time.

So if I had put $50 on St Kilda I end up losing?? I might only get say $35 back?? I find that hard to believe....

Having said that, I have just been searching on the net and their rules do state it.

AFL Bet on who will win the match. Dead heat rule applies in the event of a draw, i.e. 50% of the dividend is paid.

So instead of it being a refund, you get 50% of your dividend.... Seems pretty ordinary to me... though I guess its lucky draws don't happen too often!

This question was raised on the Sportsbet facebook page, here is their answer...

Sportsbet.com.au G'day Wade,
In the event of a tie/draw/dead heat where that betting option was NOT offered by Sportsbet on such outcome, wagers will be paid at face value of the ticket (total payout figure including the initial stake) divided by the number ...of competitors drawing for that placing.
