Went to the excellent Manly Wharf pub in late December with my son and four of his mates. All in their 30's. I was "morals officer and designated driver" for three of us while the other two were on taxi vouchers. So I drank coke and just perved on the chics as you do. The security hoons had us on the radar all night and we moved from being out on the wharf bar to inside this bouncer dude came up and hassled the bejesus out of us. Said we had been noticed to have been there for several hours - which was true - and refused us further service and told us to leave. Simple as that. So what happens when you get three or four young blokes who are half pissed and they get insulted by a security bloke with the IQ of a small soap dish? Oh yeah - I stepped in and just told the guy to back off and we were leaving. He wasn't happy with that and the whole thing just went pear-shaped but we did escape okay and no harm done. Its stupid really.
Caution! You are now entering the no-spin zone...

Lets put things into perspective
Is it some sort of directive to fingerprint patrons ?

Imagine we all have 18 year old daughters
It would be difficult to sleep at times when your little gal is out there at these clubs

The thought of
A being offered happy tablets
B having thier drinks spiked
C having MALes in drunken or stupened states groping at them
D having MALes or feMALes assaulting them [becoz they be in impared states]
E being offered dope
F MALes willing to have sex with them without wearing a franger
G etc etc

Just maybe the fingerprints will identify drink spikers and drug offerists
Or perhaps the printing will create a prevention is better than cure affect and keep these people away from these clubs

As for your 18 year old daughter
Its a mighty big step from a Blue light disco to a nightclub

As Gary Window was fond of saying: "It's bunkem!"

Coogee Bay Hotel started doing this last year.

Mind you, if you drink there, the cops probably already have your details anyway...

The Highlander - affectionately known as the FIGHTlander for obvious reasons - got so bad at one point before they closed the night club part used to have a metal detector followed by finger print scan and used to scan your drivers license as well.

I used to go the Highlander every friday night and to be honest i never saw lots of trouble there, there were a fair few one on one fights but security was generally pretty quick to break it up and get them outside.

The highlander had nothing on the Village, or the Midway & Louisiana these days.

Does Adelaide have one of those as well? I went to one joint on Clarendon St South Melbourne of the same name, Gave Security a mouthful as they are very discriminatory in letting patrons into their venue ( for every 1 bloke must enter with 1 female  )

thats pretty standard in most night clubs in Melbourne, they are very strict on their ratios inside the clubs. Generally all that means is you find the prettiest girls in the line-up who dont have guys with them and ask if you can enter with them and then buy them a drink for helping you out WIN-WIN!

I agree,

i still go to a few of these places and have no issue if it means people with previous bad history are kept out of these establishments.

i know it is used to keep patrons out they have been kicked out of the venue previously which can only be a good thing.

i have a 2 year old daughter and another due any day and no doubt in years to come they will be looking at going to these places. The safer they are the better i will feel.

4AM close.

Buy my hot-dog with sauce.

And watch the drunk idiots go the knuckle in the car-park.

Then catch a taxi home.

Good times.
