Workplace Rights

Postby Media Park » Fri Apr 15, 2011 9:46 pm

Further to something I posted on the shits thread earlier in the week, I was officially accused of theft at my work today (completely false) and given the following options:

1) Pay the "missing" money back, and no further questions asked.

2) Continue to deny any wrongdoing, in which case the police will be called, and all staff considered "under suspicion."

What sort of rights do I have here? I know for a fact that I did not do anything wrong, and I feel it in really unfair.

Are u in a Union MP?

If so, they would be the 1st port of call.. if not try here and see how u get on

http://www.fairwork.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx

I gather u work in retail, so it would be fair to say they have CCTV covering all aspects of the store.

My personal opinion would be if they had 100% video proof they would have sacked your ass already

I'd hold your ground MP, if you're innocent your innocent. Forget the union, if they're going to get the police involved I'd find a local lawyer.

i am a manager in retail i suggest they have no proof otherwise you would already be terminated cctv is not always a clear indication of what is/has occured let the police deal with it then claim damages from your company for slander.
if you find it hard to stay working with those who accused you speak to your hr department for a transfer to another location.

Tell your boss to **** off, slap him in the face, turn around grab his head and perform a power drive on him....wait for the ref to count to three then jump to your feet and wait for the crowd to applaud....lap it up for a minute or two then make a hasty exit while your theme music comes on and wait for the next episode before doing it again....thats what i'd do anyway

If you are innocent, insist the police are called. They will sort it out.

Agree statements about the union movement as a union member for over 20 years, but the ALP....they are sh1t and have totally lost the plot with regard to their grass roots supporters. cf Rann's anti-union anti public service enterprise agreement breaking regime. No doubt you'll defend him.

That sucks MP. As a bare minimum ask them to put their allegations in writing.

I tried that today. No luck.

Bottom line is we're doing some renovations at the moment, and when they ask me to do some work over the weekends, I'm going to "charge" them the money they are after- since before this all happened I would have done it for free... Lot of respect lost, and instead of looking at the jobs in the paper saying that they'd suit me, I may just go for them...

MP - it just shows that for whatever reason the target of missing money was placed on your head. You are well within your rights to ask for the allegations to be made in writing. By them refusing to do so it just shows that they are full of it.

I would also be now requesting a written letter of apology and an apology in front of other staff members
