IS NORTH GOING INTO GOLF/REAL ESTATE ??

Postby bayman » Thu Mar 01, 2007 6:08 pm

i've heard 'on the grapevine' that north is/has purchased the waikere golf club & surrounding land & intend building units adjacent to the course so their money problems of the past dont come back to bite 'em again

i would think this is a very very smart move (but why waikere ? :? :? :? :? )
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I didn't know Westies had exclusive rights to golf courses and land around the Riverland. :?
What are Glenelg lads doing in the Myer Centre this week trying to recruit members and sell raffle tickets?
Surely cutting someone's lunch there methinks!

On the original rumour must admit I've heard nothing nor has anyone on the Roost.
But even with a bigger than needed debt reduction scheme we're still making ridiculous amounts of money each year so it would and wouldn't suprise me.
1) it wouldn't suprise me to look at other investments
2) it would suprise me as we're trying not to advertise how much money we're making and buying up golf courses and real estate wouldn't exactly be keeping it quiet.

Looking at this topic it looks like its Sturts area, it looks like North take over from the Torrens upwards:

Who?

North Melbourne?
North Ballarat?
North Sydney?

Didnt see any mention that this was North Adelaide

How could they buy the golf course if its council owned? Maybe the right to run the golf course I would think, like Pete Ormsby at the Pat...

It's in the SANFL forum, so that would narrow it down a bit, unless we're finally going to get rid of the bye and let one of the other 3 in.

No way known would the locals contemplate such a move. Selling off excess land which might be situated within the golf course boundaries yes, and a number of golf clubs have done that to raise revenue. But selling off the golf course land proper would not be a goer.

Well, I would've trhought he got away from Westies and not North when he went to Port. Unless the zones have changed significantly since then.

There'd be at least three Lehmanns that have played for North from Waikerie.

There was no country zoning when Russell signed with Port Adelaide. I have read that Russell had narrowed his options down to three clubs, North, Port and West with North the most likely to gain his signature. For whatever reason the official sent by North to sign Ebert never completed the task and thus he ended up with Port, the team he had supported since 1957 anyway.

Ironically Port thought that they had Barrie Robran ready to sign when the offer from North and in particular Barrie's hero Don Lindner was tabled. There was then never any doubt as to where Barrie would play.

Either way Robran and Ebert in the same team would have been a fantastic prospect, but for the SANFL's sake it is probably a good thing that they ended up on opposition sides.

Well there you go - Wedgie was right. North did let Ebert go.
