PS Any chance they can scrap the SANFL but show the Rugby instead? Would love to be watching Phil Waugh and some other Wallabies currently running around club rugby in Sydney! :D

Unfortunately, money makes the world go round. Not enough viewers, not enough money. It MIGHT make more people go to the footy though!

It's a generic graphic used for WAFL, VFL & TSL, and SANFL are the only state league comp that still uses the 25 metre penalty rule.

I'm not sure it has the pull to be on ABC1 but surely it's the duty of the ABC to support regional interests on one of their channels.

Had to laugh a few days ago in Chadvertiser when an ABC spokeswoman said in response to questions about it's future "I don't know where this has come from". Well I would have thought when the comparitive shows in other states have been axed it's fairly reasonable to come to the conclusion that the equivalent is going to happen in the other states.

Is it possible that the AFL may come to the ABC's aid with funding?

I know that it would have the opposite effect. As a case study see NBL - the less TV the lower the crowds (and all other forms of revenue).

The same is probably true of SANFL. As coverage has dropped so have crowds but there is a chicken and egg effect.

If the ABC coverage is lost then that would be a major blow and the end of the comp as we know it.

Agreed, I think it will be a massive blow. The amount of 'casual supporters' will drop off dramatically as they will lose any contact witht he competition.
