We all cope with these things in different ways, and whilst Im sure it wouldn't provide much comfort at the minute, she won't be your last Dog and Im sure you'll have another memorable addition to the family once you all feel comfortable bringing in a new pup.

Thoughts are with your clan mate.

Hey Wegs, Grog went through the same thing with Henry earlier this year mate, after 17 years. Even he, with his attitude toward dogs being "working dogs" was cut up by it. Hark burried Storm last year as well. Not nice at all mate. It's like part of you disappears with them no doubt. My thoughts are with you.

We're going to get a pug and perhaps another small dog when the kids get a bit older. But yeh, don't worry I hate knowing that we'll most probably outlive them.

We used to go with staying with them at the Vet's until they were gone, then leaving the body with the Vet for cremation and disposal.
With the last two my wife got more sentimental about it, and we kept the ashes.
Then when my wife died, and I moved back to SA, I had the issue of what to do with the dog's ashes - in the end I left them in Victoria.
[My wife's ashes are at Centennial Park with my family - her family wasn't interested, partly because her leaving their Church caused a rift.]
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

We had her put down just before 1pm today, we're getting her ashes in an urn.
Saddest most heart wrenching thing I've ever had to go through in my life but it would have been cruel to hang on till Monday.
We rang the vet beforehand and told her what was happening and she recommended she be put to sleep today.
Sad times.
Thanks for everyone's thoughts.

The second you get a dog is the second you're assuring yourself of heartbreak.

But we wouldn't avoid getting one fir that reason : it's so much more valuable having had the tines with then you do.

Sorry to hear that wedgie.

We lost ours only a few weeks ago, but are now planning the next dog.

We did that too, they go to sleep very peacefully

Yep,the reaper(vet) came to our place to do it to my Norweigen Elk Hound of 13 years. I struggled and my old man, said it was one of the hardest things he has ever done! Very peaceful, and the old boy almost looked appreciative, he was spent,he'd given everything he had left! If anything,i feel abit bad i let it drag out as long as i did! :(

Sorry to hear about Jemma Wedgie, best wishes to you all.

Please remember her unequivocal love for you.
You can have that again with another (not a replacement, as all are different but all understand your effort) it will help as the kids go through puberty.
But Yes, it is heartbraking every time!
