Had to laugh about the

The Sunday Mail understands former SAAFL president and current league patron John Dicker helped organise the meeting and wrote a letter to the presidents of all SAAFL clubs urging them to consider the circumstances surrounding Mr Shadiac's sacking.

Helped who organise the meeting? :-k

You guessed it 8-[

The great man himself was ringing around the clubs trying to get people to go only to be told :finga: by most of them

$150k per year is the biggest joke

"attracting a government grant and developing the league's website"

You'd want to be getting more than a government grant and new website for a $150k per year. He should've been coaching 5 different teams and cooking 30 BBQ's every Saturday for that sort of coin

like it or not he was employed to do a job and has been terminated from that job. so, depending on his contractual arrangements and any termination clauses he may well be entitled to some compensation if dismissed 'unfairly'. i wonder what the terms of his employment were given the $ mentioned in the article.

now, while there is emotion involved in his employment, in that he is scrutinised by 69 clubs and many many other individuals, there will be those who say that he got moved on because he was no good for whatever reason and those who might say he was doing a good job that was in fact quite a difficult job in that he had to serve many masters.

when we go into work this week we could all question the performance and capabilities of at least one other employee but we wouldn't necessarily like to see them terminated from their employment. and there is also no doubt we could question what at least one other employee is being paid.

CEO of the SAAFL would be one of the toughest gigs you could take on i reckon given the emotion and history involved.

Whilst all will have a view on the termination details it should not be overliiked that the board had lost faith in the way the job was being done.

The board is elected by the clubs to do a job and part of that is to direct the CEO and for the CEO to follow those directions, if they feel that the current CEO is not following their direction to their satisfaction but he/she was marching to the sound of their own drum then they have no choice but to terminate.

Clearly there has been a deal of unrest amongst the clubs for a while and the board was forced to act or they would suffer the same fate when next the clubs/delegates meet at the AGM.

I dont believe the current Executive would have acted the way they did if they believed they were not acting in a responsible manner and for the betterment of the SAAFL.

Fair post. Last time I cared to know, the threshold for being excluded for unfair dismissal was around 110k so I'd say his claim wouldn't be "unfair" in the eyes of industrial law. Tell you what though, I'd be p155ed if I lost a 150k a year job too.

According to the the SAAFL quotes in the articles they sought legal opinion from two different legal firms and they thought they had grounds for termination. The former CEO has also sought legal advice since his dismissal and they have given a different opinion.

To say his achievements were the increase in sponsorship and the website then sadly IMO he hasn't left a good legacy behind.

IMHO the best thing that happened in his tenure as Chief Executive Officer was to move the league offices from North Adelaide to Thebarton Oval.

and despite the words of that great fictional author Ashley Porter, Shaidac totally opposed the move to Thebarton, yet he was quite happy to take the credit for it now

Im off to Uni Oval next week for Past Players Day (5 games)

Ashley, is it Bob Neil or Bob Neal Oval?

You are right you can't claim unfair dismissal if you earn more than about 115K. However, you can still claim an 'unlawful' dismissal which i think is the path he would be going down.
