NORTH V GLENELG TRIAL

Postby mal » Sat Mar 24, 2007 5:09 pm

NA`1-1.....4-4.....5-7.....7-11
GL 5-4.....7-6.....8-14...8-18

Sat in the grandstand, needed a vacuum cleaner for the seats they were filthy.
Friends bought cold pies and warm drinks.
No BBQ today as well
Disappointing for a wealthy club.
Had 3 sponsors under the scoreboard
SUBWAY
HAMPSTEAD HOTEL
MCDONALDS
At least one of the sponsors I approve of[they sell beer]
BAYMAN collected 41 cans to cover his $2 admission and made a 5c profit,

GL with a 3 goal breeze dominated in the 1st quarter and won comfortably.
FISHER was dynamic in the 1st half.
BACKWELL was walking without crutches today.
ALLEWAY took the trial mark of the year on the wing.
LADHAMS was in the crowd after half time, he must have shook hands
with MIGHTY TIGER 79 as his wrist was bandaged.
KIRKBY took a couple of big grabs.
BOAK is a smooth mover, BAYMAN reports he might have a leg injury.
Reserves starter Jack FOSDIKE played with permission for GL today
I believe NW want about $5000 to clear him.
I think SPORN was reported for a head high bump.

GL shared the ball well and deserved to win
NA tried hard in the last qtr but were too far in arrrears

At one stage the score was just before half time
GL 7-4
NA 4-3

GL kicked 1-14 in its last 15 scoring shots.

Highlight as always was seeing the Premiership photos in the club room.
We saw the spitting image of PUNK ROOSTER
That was the 1902 team mascot.

Also great to see the great man in the souvenier box the greatest number 10 in the club.

Was Chris McDermott there selling Glenelg merchandise??

Good win boy the boys but 8-18 plenty of work to do, trial game only so in the big scheme of things it means bugger all but pleasing to see the effort was there.

in the word of Guru Bob we will be KTLOI (keeping the lid on it)

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The bays were a lot tighter than North today, except for the first minute when North opened the scoring into the wind, they never looked in the hunt.

It was good to see the bays turn up with the finest examples of their supporters today,

Also number 49 for NA today
Damien CUNNINGHAM
Showed in one passage of play he may be a player
He evaded a couple of tackles brilliantly in that passage, great stuff

And that ALLEWAY mark =D>

I'll bet you're disappointed Ian. You walked around Prossie twenty times and that was the only crack you could snap. You should have gone to the beach instead or the Adelaide Aquatic centre ha ha.

I believe the actual score was 8.19 to 7.10, the kids on the scoreboard (who were called up to do it at the last minute) got one of the points the wrong way around.

Wore number 49. Ben Kane, the ex-Hawthorn player. His brother is playing in the Under 19s tomorrow.

Pretty impressive game, but not sure if North where really that interested, we really looked the better side today. Couple of the young guys impressed me (Day and Lally). The recruits all played well, esp Ben Kane looks like he will be a very good pickup. Thought Kirkby played a very good game at CHB on Alleway, looks like we might not have to worry about a CHB....Also thought Willits didn't have his best game for us, wouldn't be suprised if he is playing a fair bit of footy with us this year again, esp when Tredrea gets back for the power, all the better for us. Without Sherwood, Mithcell, Smith, Backwell, Boak and maybe another AFL listed player playing for us today, things are looking great for round two. :D

The Bays won the game as they where MUCH harder at the ball, without a doubt. Our extra 3-4 weeks of pre season may have been the difference.

Alleway's mark was indeed an absolute hanger, the umpire loved it that much he payed a one hand one bounce mark a few minutes later that even Stevie Wonder could have seen bounce.

The report will be interesting, exactly the type of incident that you would get 4-5 weeks for this year in the AFL, a head high tackle on the player on the ground. The SANFL will be setting a precedent with this one, to see whose rules we are using. The fact that it was indeed written in the book where as last year would have been just a free kick may be an indicator?
