Noticed some interesting ins for a couple of sides 4 weeks out from finals. L.Corrie for Morph Vale and D.Trevena for Pt Noarlunga...

Also as mentioned with players finals qualification, does anyone 100% know if the player has to "play" (physically set foot on the ground) for it to be counted, or as long as you are present and in uniform you can just sit on the bench or in the grandstand for that matter, as long as you are on the team sheet???

Yes I 100% know - as I mentioned on the C Grade thread....

Being at the ground or sitting on the bench definately does not count.... BUT
It is up to the opposition club's staff to ensure that anyone who is on the team sheet but does not physically take part in the game, is crossed off at the conclusion of the match. This ensures the SFL do not count them as having played, and therefore won't count toward a qualification game.

As mentioned about a "team of the year" I have listed all players who have been named in the best players 7 times or more this season (included are 2 leading goal kickers). As picked by their club, coaches etc. who would be the best judges because it may include getting in the best for a special role or defensive effort etc., which is important. In theory 90% of you TOTY would come from this list:

In reply to Petoe, just a quick note on Joel Harman, sitting 5th for SFL goals atm on 58, came to the club in 2006 and has helped rebuild Aldinga, good club man too, worked hard on his fitness this year, combined with better delivery and he is playing well

Fair to say that the players you listed from the lions have been our better performers this year but you have missed the guy who everyone thinks take out the Lions BnF in Matt Farrelly. According to sporting pulse 4 x b.o.g.'s a 4th and a 5th. Has been freakishly good this year playing on and beating some of the biggest names in the SFL.

Rusty Curyer and Brad Mcilvar have been very consistent performers all season while Goody has missed half the year but been brilliant when he has played.

I can only speak for Liam Corrie but due to influences outside of MVFC's control Liam was unable to play until last weekend due to South pocketing a transfer fee for him to be cleared interstate over our heads. Unfortunately for us South has screwed a feeder club again by charging a transfer fee for someone they declared publically, in The Advertiser in fact, that he was not a required player.

Liam was not able to be cleared back until the transfer fee was sorted out. He has been training with us for the past 2 months and has been chomping at the bit to get back on the park. Good to see the clubs at a higher level, that are supposedly about developing better players, could keep a youngster out for as long as they did.

To be honest it doesn't really surprise from South though does it...

Certainly heading down to Brighton Oval (or "the Salon" as the locals call it) to see the Brighton vs Valley's game tonight. Surely the outrageously short turnaround time will have to affect the Bombers a bit, who played Cove last Sunday arvo and are now kicking off again at 7pm on a Friday night. Could be a big chance for the Vikings!

As a neutral fan ill be hoping to see some hangers from Rigney, some gut running from Pommas, and some sick dunks from the youths who are always playing at the basketball rings along Brighton road.

5 days between matches not ideal but we've had some heavy grounds of late and I assume HV was fairly heavy for their game last week so their legs would be feeling it. Say what you like about Cove's ground but it is always a terrific surface and our game was played on a fast track last Sunday. We always wanted to play our first A grade night match vs Happy Valley to reciprocate us playing night games at HV twice before. Unfortunately Cove can't seem to sort their house out with Soccer and we were forced to play on the Sunday at the SFL's direction last week. Light week on the track this week and win or lose, our boys then get an extra day break before tackling Reynella next week so a slight negative could turn into a slight advantage.

A big congratulations to Saul Abbott who plays his 150th senior game this weekend. A true gentleman of the Southern Football League, and would be one of the fairest players going around in all competitions.

Saul is very well respected at the FHFC because of his strong desire, committment and enthusiasm towards the football club.

This is an extremely big achievement for Saul, who has battled some serious injuries during the course of his football life, including a shoulder and knee reconstruction. To come back from a knee reconstruction at age 29 personifies his character, as others with less guts and determination would have simply given the game away.

It's now up to the boys to give some back starting with a big win on Saturday.
