Is it possible? Has it been done before?

Post by CENTURION »

Amazing as it may seem but West is in REAL danger of collecting the spoon this year! This would be incredible when you consider their start to the season! Has a fall from grace of such magnitude in 1 season been done before?

I thought they were a real shot at the flag earlier in the year, the turnaround has been amazing.

Would rather hand it to Port. Would give them the opportunity to steal part our slogan for the year: One Club, Two Spoons.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

West will finish second to bottom, cant see Sturt winning 2 games to jump them

Sturt play Port who have lost 4 of last 5 and are coming off a 5 day break .. could be 1

Then they play West .. could be the 2nd.

Of course West would have to go winless for their last 4 games.

Unlikely but what has been likely about this season?

And Sturt have North to come at Unley also. Sure North would start hot favourites, but they did at Prospect a few weeks ago and Sturt won.

Quite fortuitously, Sturt and West are drawn to square off in the final round. With any luck Sturt will have notched up another win or two by then, so for the first time in years we might have a proper SPOON DAY game!

Even more fortuitously, my mob has the bye, so I can attend the game and enjoy what is sure to be a fine spectacle end exhibition of skills 8)

Makes a mockery of the Westies supporters who gave me a spray about how the side was definatly too old too slow this time after their round 2 victory. Like i told them we were still a mathmatical chance of playing finals.

I liked it better when spoon day didn't involve the boys in double blue. West are used to it at least of late. Maybe in 2 years time well have west vs bays spoon day, like the halcyon days of footysa in the early 00's.

I like the tradition of it though at least.

The original Spoon Day (tm) from those halcyon footysa days was a Norwood v Glenelg affair. The Norwood lads passed the spoon onto Westies the next year. Unfortunately Westies then propped up the rest of the teams for a few years, which kind of killed off the formation of a proper tradition, more's the pity. All the more reason to get right behind it this year!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the jubilation from Glenelg fans to have passed to mantle on to any other side, Norwood happened to be it and the beast was born.

Sturt fans talking about spoons though, must have short memories.

Weren't Woodville top after one or two rounds in 1982 when Blighty came back??? Then finished....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I think South might have owned the spoon the year before Norwood took it, but the Legs were drawn to play the Bays in the final round. Recognising that Glenelg was as spoonworthy as the Panthers, we were happy enough to pass on the spoon on their behalf. Oh, those heady days of footysa.com....
