Lachie Neale has had to have x-rays for a cheekbone injury sustained from a Cubilo hit off the ball. I saw the swinging arm but wasn't sure where contact was made as they were moving towards the School End Goal and their backs to me. Was a real dirty hit as Neale didn't have any idea he was coming as it was a long way behind play.

I feel sorry for Wundke and it would have been a hard time for his family vut it appears as if it was a accidental collison caused by one player watching the ball and the other player dounling back and bang.

Yeah, an 18 year old kid getting belted by a bloke who is 12 cm taller and 10 kilos heavier. Have all those Sturt fans who have called Kirk a "thug" and a "coward" got anything to say about this?

Personally I didn't see the incident only the kid bending over and a couple of Bay players remonstrating with Cubillo. An umpire was there pretty quickly. Not sure a free was paid either which would lead you to believe either an ump didn't see it or they did and was nothing in it. I'm sure if Glenelg was concerned and had evidence they would pursue it.

I rang the Glenelg Football Club to see what my statement should be.

No whining here Meatpie, some Bay supporters wanted a reply to the Cubillo incident so I gave an honest summary.... and you're still not happy!

Some maybe but not me..."you ducked your head..play on".

This whole thread has put kirk out there as a thug with absolutely no evidence whatsoever. and the bloke in question has no priors...apart from the fact he may take his OWN teammate out when he has the blinkers on.

its nothing personal butterman!!!

Re: Glenelg v Sturt Match Review

So, in summary:

There is strong suspicion that Cubillo hit Neale in the head away from the ball. Noone really saw it, some Glenelg players remonstrated, no video evidence, no report was laid. Neale generally OK and played game out.

There is strong suspicion that Kirk made some sort of contact with Wundke that lead to him being knocked out, bleeding from lip and sretchered off the ground. Noone saw what happened, some Sturt players remonstrated with Kirk, no video footage found, no report laid. Wundke misses rest of game and unlikely to play this week according to media.

The most pressing question in my view is what action do we expect from the SANFL in these situations? Did they interview Neale or give Cubillo a please explain? Is the umpires observer at the ground empowered to do this? Did they interview Sturt players nearby to Wundke incident or issue Kirk with a please explain?

I think the AFL go over the top at times, but at least they are willing to get involved in issues (except tanking) rather than sit back and allow unsavory incidents to go unchallenged. When the media are reporting about SANFL players being stretchered off the field and there is speculation about how it occurred, it is not a good look for our comp to very quickly put it in the too hard basket. This is the real issue here and bigger than who actually did what from which club and claiming that two wrongs make a right.

Why would you issue a "please explain" to someone in such circumstances? There's no evidence either Kirk or Cubillo were even involved! If they came back and simply said they didn't know anything, what would (or could) the league do? Suspend them for not knowing anything despite some fans claiming they should?

This whole thread long ago became a massive joke, sadly though it's getting worse. There's no evidence from anywhere at all do proceed with.

As for avoiding future incidents without witnesses, the only option is to add cameras to pick up the whole ground. No you can't simply tell the umpires to watch more closely because there are 9 umpires on the ground I believe, how many do you want to be watching the play? If none of the 17 teammates these guys had on the ground saw it, seems a bit rich to expect the umpires to.

Pretty poor state of affairs that so many pages of crap are written on here - sums up pretty well the lack of integrity and dishonesty associated with the game today. both clubs shuld take a good hard look at themselves or is this an indication our game in SA is getting as dishonest as the AFL version. God help our future kids.
