Norwood versus WWT trial

Postby topsywaldron » Mon Mar 26, 2007 12:32 pm

Anyone else go?

Thought Norwood looked OK given the amount of first choice players who were sitting in the stands.

Two main thoughts. One - wrap Andrew Hill in as much cotton wool as possible and two, good to see so much pressure in our forward lines to stop the ball shooting out again like it's done for as long as I can remember.

Some pleasing signs.

Certainly were some pleasing signs Topsy, but also a healthy dose of reality with the Eagles leaving out guns like Lindsay and Passador.

As I intimated in another thread last week, Norwood will have a heavy reliance on their AFL listeds and should be competitive against anyone with the majority of them in the lineup.

A lot to like about recruits McGuiness, Vallejo and Wonaeamirri and the manner in which the boys played the game out ... However, it's probably more worthwhile looking at the first 20 minutes or so when the Eagles led 5 goals to 0, thats effectively game over if it happens against them in the real stuff.

All in all a pleasing performance from the majority of players, but as with all trials the result in meaningless.

Didn't see the game but heard Norwood blitzed through the midfield in the last quarter with their star on-ballers taking over once Cooper, Cicolella etc were rested.

Trying to work out the outs for the Eagles on the weekend:

Colville - injured till mid-season with shoulder?
Inkster - injured till mid-season with knee?
Hier?
Hall rested?
Lindsay rested?
Passador rested?

Any Eagles fans on here go to the game? Any reports would be appreciated.

I was there and spoke with Passador he will be out 1 to 2 weeks, when I heard this my heart sunk .Not sure about Lindsay.
First 15 -20 minutes of the game the EAGLES played like the grandfinal Cicca was into the packs and he got every ball out of the centre .With the ball coming out we got it forward and kicked the first 5 goals .norwood came back and looked better after half time .Something happened they took Geddes of he had kicked three at FF we didnt get the ball into the forward line .There was no one busting packs hence we got done by 7 .But they did rest certain players when they went off we went off the boil . The biggest surprise for me Mackenzie played at fullback and peddler at centrehalf back and macca looked lost and we had very little run from the halfback line. When macca ran forward no one covered his player and he kicked at least one goal. And over heard 2 of the EAGLES coaching staff before the game say they were playing with 4 key position players out.

Begs the question are WWT and Centrals fair dinkim in preseason games or have both dropped of the pace.

Had a chat with Hally before the game and he'll be right to go ... I'd forgotten about Inkster and Hier, some definite talent missing for the Eagles then no doubt about it - Legs missing a few quality players like Campbell, Gibson, Duigan and Brunoli but granted they aren't in the same class (with the exception of Campbell perhaps) as the Eagles outs.

One of the Fiacchi boys had an excellent first half and the Eagles are so well organised on the field ... Only a bad season with injury would prevent them from being right around the money again this year IMHO.

I think he certainly will be one of the best, but might wanna wait until we've seen Callinan, Stribling, Schwarze and co. before we give him that title ... So far so good though :D

Paul Lindsay missed the trial due to wedding in Perth. Hall missed the game with bruised heel - will be back this week. Passador's hoping to be back this week. Rested alot of players in the final term. Wouldn't be too concerned it is only a trial. You don't win premierships in march afterall. All you norwood supporters gloating. Don't get too cocky just yet, you'll get a dose of reality shortly with the normal under performing norwood side to return for the minor round. I still stand by may call of Eagles being a top 3 side. All Eagles supporters don't worry.

Congratulations Constance_Perm for being probably the only Norwood fan to be not getting carried away with your trial win.

Sorry for gloating when I said Norwood looked "OK" and that there were some "pleasing signs".

What I really meant to say about the thirteen goals to one second half was that Norwood looked like a disorganised rabble, were bereft of leadership, low on skills and were undermanned in each position. :D

Not in this thread they havent.
At the ground all I heard in the first half was @#% Norwood player .Norwood @#% kick the ball .And I got abused because my team had a dream run from the umpires and I never spoke to this norwood twit before that comment.
After halftime it was like they were winning a grandfinal the same Norwood fans abusing the players suddenly thought the sunshined out of thses players backsides. And what they critised earlier they now thought was great play making.
Talk about fickle fans
:D

Unfortunately all teams have so-called fans like these Micky, if you think ANY club doesn't have their share I'd suggest you think again.
