Club Web Pages

We are in the year 2007, we are 10days roughly to the kick of to the season and clubs for some reason or another can not get there web pages up to scratch. im not being picky as all clubs have interstate supporters as well as the elderly who cant go the club. Would it not be a priority to keep all information up to date.

Tell me your thoughts???/

Examples
West: No player names, numbers injuries etc
Norths : Is Koops & Edwards back??? (better but needs updating)
Souths : Still list Cupido, Demasi etc etc

And so on, what im saying is it too much to have a club with an up to date web page, it sh##s me!!, and i do go to other clubs to see players etc. credit to Wedgie and co,,,, at least they keep this site to the minute generally

I don't think it's an unreasonable request at all Dash ... I still wonder whether some clubs really understand how invaluable and inexpensive a tool the internet is!

Thats my point

If someone asked me could i help, id go down take a picture of all players, put a picture of the player on the site with a few details etc i could get. Most of us football desperates on here would all help our clubs.

After posting i went to norwoods in they are stuck in august 2006, except the promotional crap all our clubs are happy to post straight away where there is a buck to be made

its a pet hate of mine and all football administrators here and interstate just dont care.

Quick Look

Postby dash61 » Tue Mar 27, 2007 11:38 am

A quick look at all club sites produced these results

Up to date with players etc
Eagles, Ports & Central Districts

Still Listing 2006 players
West, Norths, Souths, Sturts, Glenelg & Norwood (Glenelg still listed as players Cornes, Marker & Carey   )

Norths with their on line scoreboad last year was the stand out site but some of the info on the Ports site suggest they may be a challenger

Pretty common problem. A club web site must be spick and span AND up to date.

Hell ours did not even list the squad going to Tassie?

Can we relate the professionalism of the web site to the professionalism of the club and team. After all isnt following a team about passion and comunication

Web Pages

Postby dash61 » Tue Mar 27, 2007 12:02 pm

Interesting enough

Ports, Eagles, Centrals(up to date) & Norths (web page winner 2006) were the better onfield teams in the last couple of years and probably this year.

Are these clubs more professional than the others??????

I just can't believe how poor the club websites are and there are no excuses as it's not expensive to run. It really comes down to where it sits as a priority for the club. North is well ahead of the rest as they have constant updates, blogs and list all four teams. Port's has improved a fair bit but you need to see how it progresses over a year.

How

Postby dash61 » Tue Mar 27, 2007 12:13 pm

How hard is it???, Joe Blogs stands at the players race at training and at the instruction of the coach / football manager informs all players that you will have your picture taken when coming in and answer a couple of questions

answers to post on the club site / questions asked while taking pic,
1) Age & DOB
2) Nickname
3) Where you recruited from
4) Jumper Number

Two people, one with a camera, the other asking these 30 second questions and jotting down the answers (a minute per player)

The site then contains a little bit of the stuff people are interested in!!!!!

Not only do they set standards on the field some of these clubs are front runners of the field. A coincidence or not??? or just forward thinking

My thinking is
Why have pictures etc of your 2006 model / when now you are trying to promote and sell your 2007 model

North's even though its the best is a bit behind as its in the process of being re-launched with even more (and better) features, the new player list/photos will be on that, it was due for publishing last Friday but has been put back to iron out a couple of hitches.

Norwood's will also have additional material which should greatly enhance the experience for supporters who use it, most of which is ready to go, just waiting on some personnel.

Just went to the NAFC site a minute ago, to find this message at the top:

"Members, please be advised that the updated website will be available prior to the end of this week."

So let's hope it all gets a fresh look with good features in the next few days.

Lets hope ALL clubs move forward and are ready for the official start to the 2007 season

example

Had to some planning to ensure i booked in with the FUN POLICE(the wife) that i would be at prospect on the sunday when north and west do battle.

Went to the west site and found out that we were not playing Norths round 2, in fact it ws to be played in June and then found out we had already LOST, that was 2006, came back here and got the correct material.

Lets just hope we are all up to date by the start of the season

From a South perspective,

Country, Interstate and Overseas members have never had it better in regards to electronic communication of news from around the Panthers.

Much of that is thanks to the hard work of Nick "Scoop" Hook.

Since I started at the club Nick has done a predigious amount of work with me on the following;

- Ensuring all media releases have been placed on the site at the same times as when they have been announced.

- Our new regular e-mail newsletter "Panther Press Press" is posted up at the same time it goes out to members

- Posted game time photos on the site within 48 hours of the match. (Match reports to commence Rd 1)

- We have worked on having our quarterly newsletter "Panther News" available in electronic format.

- 2007 Memberships were announced first on the web and could be applied for over the web for the 1st time.

- We have launched Panthers Radio, a weekly 30 minute podcast with the latest news around the club (3 shows done)

- We have launched a Members Only section of the web site which member have now been sent their access codes for
Whilst the front end site will still contain general news about the club with access for all, the Members Only section will provide more indepth information that die-hard Southies really want (ie team selections as they are announced, special sponsor offers, and "The Noarlunga Doctor")

Suffice to say I believe that Scoop has done a most sensational job in very difficult circumstances (ie having to work with me)

Yes it may be fair that the player list needs updating
However there is not a club in the SANFL that has it's final 2007 list on its web site
Why?
The final senior squad list is not due to be provided to the SANFL until AFTER the last trial game.

So we could take departed players off BUT such a list cannot be complete until just before the first game.

Panther Fans, Stay tuned for further improvements.
