Sounds as if the bookies in the UK got it completely wrong overnight. Sneijder was in to something like $1.30 to join Man Utd but obviously didn’t eventuate.

Pissed off the club was too gutless to get sneijder, if we dont go well in Europe some heads better roll

your keeper looks a bit shaky there Jim i have to admit watching the game at OT on sunday...he did save a penalty but the goals he let in were soft and easy saves and seeing the charity shield (i think he played) he looked nervous......might be another Bartez ;)

As in the World cup winning and EPL winning Barthez ;)

Yes Barthez made a few howlers but his record speaks for itself, i think for memory he won a couple of league titles and a Champions league final in France and won a couple of EPL titles.
Add to that his World Cup and Euro champs medals his World GK of the season award and numerous other records id say he has a record most players would envy

Regardless of his record I thought Man U went through a lean patch from when Schemical retired until they bought VDS. Barthez was apart of two very good teams with great defenders for France and United, helped him alot. But I did kinda rate him

I cant justify your reasoning for Mertersacker being average. 75 caps for Germany and hes only 26. You dont represent your country 75 times espec Germany and be average. He's just what Arsenal need

I watch a stack of Bundesliga and I can say I havnt thought much of him in the last few seasons, seems to me he is one of those players who plays a lot better at a higher level as I have thought he has played ok at Country level. He has plenty of good support around him at National level and I wonder if he will struggle at Arsenal being surrounded by some other ordinary defenders. Hey I could be wrong and he could turn out a star at Arsenal but he is definately going to need some support back there

It wasn't a great penalty by VP so a comfortable save for De Gea as far as penalties go anyway. We might let in a few with him and the young defence while we wait for Vidic and Rio to come back.

I'm also disappointed we didn't land Sneijder, I had a feeling it wouldn't happen though even when the odds came in so short. He would have made us formidable in Europe for sure, we needed him to have a decent crack at Barca or Real I reckon.

Agreed RM, we wont beat Barca with our current squad.
Personally CL is far more important than winning the league and for us to win the CL we have to strengthen the squad.
Barca would of pumped us how we played against Arsenal the other night, Sneijder would give us that grit and class that may get us closer to winning the CL

Excuse my ignorance on this one, but what happens this week with England playing a qualifier on Friday?? I'm guessing the EPL players won't be available for club matches this weekend??
