Another solid performance by the Eagles. Building nicely to finals and doing all the one-percenters well. West were as bad as Glenelg were the other week. Letting all the Eagles midfielders have a free run is fraught with danger. That game will be nothing like finals so the Eagles won't be wanting to get too ahead of themselves, but you can only beat the opposition you have on the day.

D'you reckon participation in the Foxtel Cup might have had an effect?

Absolutely none. Participation in the SANFL had an effect though.

Also thought Jimmy Toumpas was sensational on debut. Quick and skillful, had not seen any of him in the ressies and was pleasantly surprised with how good he was. Only 17, he'd have to be picked up in the AFL draft. Highlight of the day was when he got a handball receive on the boundary at half back and ran and chipped to an Eagles player, ran past again for the handball receive, chipped again, handball received again and then hit Tiller lace out on the lead which resulted in a goal. All the Eagles players got around him as did his mates in the stand - has developed a cult following already!

FWIW, a table from Round 10 (ie, after each side had one bye) to the present.

Code: Select all
                      P   W   L   D     F      A      %     Pts

Central District     11   9   2   0   1074    814   56.89   18
Norwood              11   9   2   0   1026    832   55.22   18
Eagles               11   6   5   0    979    730   57.28   12
North Adelaide       11   6   5   0   1078   1010   51.63   12
Glenelg              12   5   6   1   1042   1278   44.91   11
Port Adelaide        11   5   6   0   1013    924   52.30   10
Panthers             11   4   6   1    923   1013   47.68    9
Sturt                11   3   8   0    890   1082   45.13    6
West Adelaide        11   2   9   0    764   1106   40.86    4

West certainly stand-out for the wrong reasons. The Eagles with the best defensive record and percentage in this time and will be a tough finals opponent.

Of other sides, North number one at the goalface, just ahead of Centrals. Port certainly no slackers in the last few months either (4th best percentage and defence), could make it very interesting if they're still in the hunt this time next week.

West very disappointing, seem to have the same problems they have had for the past 2-3 years and just don't threaten to score enough when it counts.
Eagles coming along nicely, pleasing to see Tiller showing some form.
Cicca has indicated he will play on again in 2012.
Rimmington will probably head home to Vic(?)

Jimmy Toumpas too young for national draft but could be picked up by GWS as a 17 yo. Have watched Jimmy in the u16, u18, ressies and u18 state team, he will end up as a running machine. Has progressed quickly over the last 12 months and has excellent skills.

Heard from a very reliable source that Mickan is heading over to GWS.
