David Piasente being chaired off the ground, appropriately as well...

Well done to Pia, a great career and good way to go out on a winning note...

Finishes on 148 games and 39 goals after kicking 3 goals this evening...

Well done West .A novel idea for Sturt would be to focus on their skills over the summer , they are woeful and are getting worse.

A better crowd than I thought would attend to be honest . Sturt played lots of kids and a few show some promise and there is plenty to work with .

Some great goal kicking by West early too.

By my calculations the only way West can make it is if South and North lose (which is quite likely) but Port would have to not turn up against the Eagles.

So by my calcs the score would have to look like this for Port to get ousted.

Port 20, Eagles 171.

Port 30, Eagles 181.

Port 40, Eagles 191 and so on.

This match was pretty much a tale of our season. First half sensational ball movement and our pressure on the ball carrier was superb. The sort of footy that showed why we were on top for the first 8 weeks.

The second half was totally opposite and showed why we've been the worst team since then.

Hartlett was superb at CHB and Fergy was the same at CHF. Hopefully they will start in those positions next year. A bit staggered to see Hartlett start on the bench in the 3rd. Thought he was BOG in the first half. Great to see Pia go forward and kick some nice goals in his last game.

Also great to see us finally get a great run with the umpires. Makes up for the last time at Unley.
Go you Redbacks!

Doesnt really matter where we finish, 6th, 7th or 8th...its not in the top 5. I guess the only positive its not bottom.

Umpiring was maybe the most abysmal I've seen this year - and that's saying something.

Well done Westies, Sturt was pretty shocking at times but Westies' ball movement showed glimpses of the sort of footy they were playing in the first half of the season. The glaring difference between the two was Sturt's continuing inability to take contested marks around the ground. Kurtze hasn't developed in that aspect of his skills at all - Wundke has shown signs he might be a prospect but needs to step up. I'd like to see Fraser Evans given a consistent berth in the As too - surely players like him are our future, not Ben Warren et al.

Disappointing end to a disappointing season. At least the BBQ was ace

I agree with all this and lets hope we are actively recruiting players we actually need , recycled average players are not the answer.

Just going by the score updates it seems Sturts accuracy infront of goal early on was critical.
Were West that much better or would have it been differant if Sturt nailed a few of those early ones?

Nicer to round the year off with a win, but was still not ultra impressive. Seemed like Sturt had lots of inside 50s but did not have any winners up forward. Duldig had a number of shots from limited touches but did not finish them. If Duldig had kicked straight or Sturt had any other forwards the story could have been so different. That was made even more noticeable because of our own straight kicking. Hartlett did well chopping off Sturt's poor kicking.

Nice to win but a bit like placing a band aid on a gaping wound.
