So near and yet so far for Port.

I wonder if diverting time and resources into the Foxtel Cup has made the difference between 6th and 5th?

Indeed. It is almost as though he is jealous. While the Tigers are currently 4th in SANFL they will no doubt slip to 5th, whareas Port will always be 4th in the Foxtel Cup - the true bench-mark of football in this great country of ours.

Are you forgetting Pipers that Port only played in the Foxtel Cup because Central, Norwood, Eagles, Glenelg and Sturt all declined invites.

One could argue that playing in the foxtel cup helped the club finish 6th rather than 8th.

As for finishing 6th instead of 5th, I think the complete stuffing up of goal scoring oppurtunities in the first minute of the third and last quarter was of greater consequence than playing in the foxtel cup.

pleasing to see the Eags showed the will to win even though the match didn't mean a lot to them. Thought we played well when we had to esp in the last quarter. Impressed with Toumpas, Lewis, Powell and Day today.
Looking forward to getting Groecke, Parry and Petrenko back next week.

i think port are the unluckiest side to not make the finals. If they had of made they finals i reakon they would of had a good side and they would of smashed the bays and possibly norwood.

i too am wondering about the foxtel cup thing.

port have some very good players...

Um, no.

On sturt though, could it by extension be said that their decision NOT to play in the Foxtel Cup was detrimental to their form???

The foxtel Cup had absoulutely zero impact on who did or did not make finals.

Everybody knows that it was the umpires at Alberton today who decided that.

He has had an impressive start to his league career. 19 possesions in both of his games so far and kicked his first goal in league footy today.

I have not suggested that Port missing the finals had anything to do with there participation in the Foxtel Cup. About the loss today instead of blaming the umpires how about you just admit you were beaten by a better side.

OK. We were beaten by a better side.

But that side had 19 players on the field for the last 7 minutes. One of whom was in white.

2 of the 3 RPH commentators focussed obsessively on the umpires at Alberton (as they tend to do - unlike Life FM - who just get on with it). Spoilt the call. I think the Eagles were always going to look after Ronnie, top win for us and a great day for South.
