SA trots r beyond saving.
Only hope is to let Victoria take over the running of them as i believe
a few people suggested last year.

The problem is the state
trots/races/dogs are all struggling compared to the other states.

Now if I RANN for government and was elected there and not the SATC
then maybe just maybe I could re-invigorate all 3 codes.

maybe the 3 codes need to work with each other rather then fight not only amongst themselves but with each other.

the dogs/trots dont have the best relationship especially at joint meetings at pirie and more so strath.

I believe what we need here is a racetrack, trotting track, dog track all at ONE venue, as they have at numerous places in victoria.

at the venues in VIC they occassionally run all 3 on one day and you usually end up with 40 races!!!!!!!!!!!! and there is a race run every 15 or so minutes!!!!!!!!! BRILLIANT. not too sure how much they charge, but you would introduce participants and punters of one part of the industry to the others, and hopefully work together in unison and not fight over who gets what!!!!!

the industry in all 3 codes is just about gone and there is a lot that would need to be done, basically its on life support and the question of it being switched off isnt too far away!!!

as BAYMAN has mentioned, you pay for what you get, but not only that it seems that the wrong people are employed in the wrong positions, or shouldnt have been employed at all.

VIC PARK I think will cost the SAJC somewhere in the vacinity of $20mill which is not what they were anticipating, they were hoping to use some of the proceeds from the cheltenham sale to put up prizemoney, but that doesnt look like happening, and more and more trainers will continue to move interstate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe the vics should run us in all 3 codes

its bloody terrible the state of all 3 codes in sa (i have raised this before), maybe we should look at how wa have reinvented the gallops, when i was there jan 2004 racing was on its knees and they didnt have a metro meeting on boxing day the week before i got there and it was all over the media about the state of racing, somehow they fixed it (dont know how) and when i was there this jan racing was thriving along with harness and dogs, i went to cannington for the third time and mavelled at the amenities there, entertainment for kids ,just a magnificent complex, the same with gloucester park - superb, they also held $100,000 $125,000 and $200,000 feature races over three consecutive fridays , what do we have? one bloody $100,000 race that hasnt had an increase in prizemoney since gammalite was in his prime WTF!!, no race is worth less than 15000 on a friday yet what do we have at globe? races worth a piddly $1200 - surely not even terang or bendigo race for such poor stakemoney, the gallops at ascot have a minimum of $45000 per race, what do we have $15000 races still on a saturday and our prizemoney is being challenged by midweek vic provincial meetings - how long before mark kavanagh pulls up stumps here? The people in charge of all 3 codes over the last 20 years should be shot, they have been an absolute disgrace and have done a shocking disservice to their industries and as bayman says they are only interested in feathering their own nests RACING IN THIS STATE IS AN EMBARRASSMENT

Valid points indeed.
The formguides in the press and in the TABs in Perth is phenominal.
In SA the only decent formguides and COMMENTS for some city meetings
is in this Gambling room when the lads to the previews.

MONDAYS
In all seriousness Mondays experts on SAfooty is the only place you can get
comments on the dogs and horses chances.
When was the last time we got form comments in the Advertiser on monday trots/dogs

MIGHTY TIGER/SCD/DUTCHY/BAYMAN/MAL and of late THE MOLE/LIONHEART actually
describe races on Mondays.

I have met people who read our columns who are not even members of SAFOOTY
One Monday at GDP I looked over this guys shoulder and he had a photocopy
of a BAYMAN preview with the LATE MAL on it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to WA formguides WITH COMMENTS

There are a couple of things here

1) the lack of support from the Government - the SA government, granted gave the 3 codes a chance to buy the SA TAB - but effectively sold it out to "PUNITAB" and then basically pulled any oportunity that the codes had of growing in this state

2) The lack of sponsorship in SA. We don't have the business driven executives to draw in the bigger sponsors

3) internal fighting... Boards are too busy trying to take each other to court and arguing rather then working together to pull each industry together.

At the end of the day - each of the 3 codes are in trouble, less particpants, less money, worse horses and it works in a circle..

The biggest problem they had was when pokies went into all clubs - the gambling money can only go so far.. The Government makes Millions from these machines.. yet won't put any money into the industries that reduce unemployment for them.. If these Pokies were given only to clubs, then the racing clubs, sporting clubs would be in a position to grow and build - but instead, it goes to "fat cat" hotel owners who give not much back to the community...

I love my SA racing - it's the one place I can bet on a small horse population and make money, but I am honestly thinking that given the current state, 3 - 4 years down the track there might not be too much racing in SA...

That is as definitive an answer you would want to read on this topic.

As for oncourse patronage
The Interdominion proved you can get massive crowds paying $25 a head

Yet on the $5 nights you see more people at a scene of an accident [literally]

Answer me this Mal - you live at say Gepps Cross (5 - 10 mins away).. you have $200 you want to spend on the trots, but think.. hmm $200 - less the $5 to get in - i'd rather go to the pub where it's warmer, or better still stay at home and watch the footy.. but lets work it out

WITH $5 ENTRY FEE
195 * 10% on course commission = $19.50 to the club + $5 entry fee = $24.50 and a punter that might come back
NO ENTRY FEE
200 * 10% on course commission = $20.00 to the club and a punter who will come back to the track
IF THEY STAY HOME
0 because they don't bet on the trots or if they are lucky
200 * 1.5% off course commission = $3 to the club..

All of a sudden, for someone that spends $200 (granted not everyone can afford it) - they are just $4.50 better off for doing it.. or $17 worse off for charging the $5 to get in..

Entry fees are great at carnival time, you have the crowds, entertainment etc.. but let's be serious, what is there to pull crowds during a 10 degree night in the middle of July.. Nothing.... you can't charge people to get in for that...

In addition - Globe Derby pays at least 7 - 8 gate staff for the night.. do they earn more then what they take on the gate, probably not is my guess for what it's worth.. they would be getting maybe 30 - 40 paying people (exluding members) = $200.. well i'd think it's more then $25 per person they're getting paid, so the club is much worse off for doing it... just stupidity...

I believe that all turnover in the Gaming Room tab during the running of the meeting is the clubs as Proper TAB staff operate it during these times. Outside of these times the tab is operated by the gaming room staff.
