(Miscellaneous debris)

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

You seriously think only one Green was involved. Seems to be a different angle to the Aussie version of OM than the Wall Street.

Another Herald Sun beatup on the Occupy Melbourne protest, this time bashing the Greens because someone on their payroll might have been involved (HOW OUTRAGEOUS). The Hun’s headline?

Yes, I’m sure they ran a similar headline about the Liberal Party members (taxpayer funded!) involved in the anti-carbon price rallies earlier in the year. “Taxpayers finance Liberal Party protest adviser” – you remember that headline, don’t you? I don’t, but I’m sure they ran it for consistency.

Those Liberals protesting the carbon tax were simply exercising their right to protest and free speech. Any member of the Greens involved in Occupy Melbourne were part of (1) unemployed ferals (2) rent a crowd (3) unruly mob. Gees....keep up will you Gozu.

The HS report was about one Greens party organiser.

I realize that. The other protesters just looked like Greens.

What do we want?

Whatever they are protesting on Wall Street, even though it really has nothing to do with Australia.

When do we want it?

Next Tuesday, because the Moon Beam festival is on next Wednesday.

They 'looked like Greens'? What does a Greens member on the public payroll look like?

The Occupy Movement is relevant to Australians.

Unshaved armpits for starters.

Did Aussie banks loose billions and not one person charged with fraud or neglect Quichey? Did the Aussie govt bail out the banks, while allowing thousands to loose their homes? Yes totally relevant.

It is relevant to the extent that CEO salaries are over the top here, too, and that shareholders, individual and superannuation funds, are being short-changed as a result.
I do agree though, with other posters, that the banks here have generally acted more responsibly - possible under some pressure from government - so that aspect is less relevant.

I'm fairly certain that Bob Brown shaves his armpits.

The movement was founded by a Canadian-based group with the premise of "Beginning from one simple demand – a presidential commission to separate money from politics – we start setting the agenda for a new America".

So, unfortunately, it is relevant to Australia, in that the corporate influence over government is far too great.

Australia aren't bailing out companies with billions of dollars though. Corporate greed in Australia is not even close to that of the US.

As the great Alan Partridge says about women with armpit hair, "It's just wrong". But if you find it attractive Gozu, good luck to ya.

The Australian Governemnt did bail out the banks to an extent.

They guaranteed deposits.

Capitalism loves socialism at such times.

Have your kids got their free computer yet???

Kevin ‘07’s “free” school computers teach kids a costly lesson

Kevin Rudd’s 2007 election promise to provide every school pupil with a computer has still not been delivered and where it has, it has cost plenty.
Parents are finding that if their children are lucky enough to get a laptop under the program, they may incur extra charges that neither Rudd nor the then Education Minister, Julia Gillard, mentioned.
The Courier Mail today highlights the plight of parents at some Queensland schools being charged up to $250 a year to use the Rudd-Gillard “free” computers.
Other parents in other states have complained that they are being forced to pay well over market rates to have the computers serviced or repaired.
More than 350,000 students are still waiting for the computers which were to be delivered under the $1.8 billion computers in schools program.
The big selling point of Labor’s “free” school computer program was that it would not financially disadvantage any parent.
The head of Queensland’s Alexandra Hills parents and citizens committee, Ed Barclay, told The Courier Mail the Federal Government scheme hadn’t taken into account added costs including software and insurance.
“It was a loopy idea that didn’t take into account the costs,” Mr Barclay said.
Haven’t we heard this before about the BER, the pink batts, the NBN and other schemes pushed by the economically-irresponsible Rudd-Gillard government?
Queensland Liberal Senator Brett Mason said as soon as a fee was imposed, students were disadvantaged.
“It was always understood that Commonwealth and state governments would bear all the costs - this appears to be another broken promise,” Senator Mason said.
Right, another broken promise to add to the carbon tax disgrace, the offshore asylum seeker fiasco and the list keeps growing.
Labor’s crash in the opinion polls is not surprising, the real surprise is that there are still Australians who believe there is still something worth supporting in the Labor Party.
Then again, anyone who would vote for a party which has introduced legislation for a tax which directly attacks the fundamental economic advantage enjoyed by this nation - cheap energy - and buys the lie that the tax process and sabotage of the industrial base of the nation will have some effect on global warming should be declared mentally incompetent and denied a vote.
At least the school children still waiting for their “free” computers will have learnt something of value from their experience that older Australians have yet to grasp.
Labor cannot be trusted.

'Loopy', 'irresponsible', 'disgrace', 'fiasco', 'lie', 'sabotage'.

Piers is going a bit easy on the Government now ;)

I like Piers, he's always attacking the elites, but uses the phrase 'at table' to say he had dinner :D

Perhaps journalism should base it's criticism on actual facts instead of acting as press releases for politcal parties.
