Announced at WWTFC Members Night

Postby cd » Tue Apr 03, 2007 10:59 pm

Tonight saw a great turn out of members at Oval Ave for our free members night.

The club put on a traditional footy night for the members - lots of free pies from Vili.

Membership as of today 1695 - with the new members and those who renewed tonight we'd be over 1700 -
Our best ever at this time of the year - thank you Eagles Fans - if not a member get on board now.

HERITAGE JUMPERS 2007 ANNOUNCED TONIGHT.
For the West Torrens day will be the blue jumper with the two upright gold stripes - wasn't worn for long - guessing in the 70s.
For the Woodville day will be the green and gold striped jumper - the one after the original peckers (i think)
Historians please help out if i'm wrong.

Our recruits gave great interviews and Andrew Rogers gave an excellent insigh tinto his coaching thoughts.

All enjoyed the giveaways and the refurbished upstairs with the new display case with one very large trophy in it looks fantastic.

For other club info check our news #4

Watch for the new website - expected to be released this week

Now for the footy on Saturday - free members email service should get the teams to you on Thursday

Hooray! :) 8) It was worn between 1974 and 1976.

The Woodville guernsey I can't remember what year it was first worn - might have been late 60s' - McAlmanac would know, and was last worn in 1982.

Dear Fatal
you'd be welcomed too - join the move to the premiers - i'll happily sign you up at Woodville in round 2!

Seriously the test will be where we end up at the end of the year membership wise - 2006 was the record at 2051 members - 352 to go to get a new record!!

Come on Eagles fans take up fatal's challenge - lets get the biggest wagon ever in the club's history

LOL - have you guys paid for him again, cos I sure as hell haven't!

Actually, my mum is a dyed-in-the-wool Torrens fan, so I do have a bit of a soft spot for the Eagles. Good luck to them. If the Eagles can get 1700 members it shows that the league is in good shape. If a few other clubs took their membership a bit more seriously we could just about tell the AFL clubs to get stuffed...

I actually like the old blue and gold stripes.

I was just curious, as the sash was a big part of WT.

As a member Im very proud that the club is NOW honouring both clubs. Im also proud that we now have a jumper that has links to BOTH clubs

I was quite upset when they missed the chance to have a centenary year in either 95 or 97.

Well said. I thought the same in '97 when they missed out honouring the centenary. It seems the club and supporters have grown up and are now comfortable enough to recognise our history goes back a lot further than 1991. Obviously it is a delicate area, but I think the club are now doing a good job with not only looking back to the past, but more importantly the direction the future is heading.

Agree James and Aerie - in my 4 years on the board and 4 years on committees before that I think we have made great strides forward and developed a proud culture of success along with the club honouring where it came from.

I think the new jumper is sensational and i think we only have one Woodville jumper to go - the warrior design and the sash of Torrens - not sure if Torrens had others - so maybe next year?

I think Torrens had the stripes, similar to the Woodville heritage guernsey that's being worn this year. Also had the small Eagle on the breast.

1968 - However I don't know if it was at the instigation of Teasdale or not.

Torrens also wore the 74-76 stripes at some point back in the thirties. This photo is from a North vs Torrens match in 1937.

That's right, it was worn in the premiership year of 1933 as well, so at least between 1933-37.

No, Torrens did not have the stripes, only the braces guernsey.

The guernseys I know of are:
Sash - up until c.1930
Braces - 1930s'
Sash - 1940s' to 1954
Large Eagle - 1955 to 1970
"Canary" Eagle - 1971 to 1973
Braces - 1974 to 1976
Sash - 1977 to 1990

Once again from The Farmer Files there is a photo of North v Torrens from 1938 and Torrens are wearing the sash.
So that considering the other photo is from 1937 it seems Torrens started wearing the sash in 1938.
Spelly any clues on what years Torrens wore the "reserve" sash? (Gold jumper blue sash). I'm guessing it would have been during the 1910's and 20's from photos I've seen.

serious question- why have the eagles got a picture of a vulture on their website? :?
that & "the eagle is angry" motto don't make much sense to me...

Otherwise, WWTFC seem to have everything else covered nicely- merchandise, buying on-line products which benefit the club spring to mind.

Perhaps the Eagle was angry as it lost all those GFs to Central?
They should change the motto now they've won last year's flag to something like "the Eagles is slightly miffed still but content"?
