I partly agree with Armytank but there are many Presidents from other leagues that have full and part time jobs and still manage to run their league without complaint. It's time for a change and if anyone's willing to take the role on they should be seriously considered.

It is a pot shot when you say a guy that has been voted in by your club every year he has done it is incompetent. If it's time for a change, put your hand up - but we all know you won't because you prefer to take pot shots at the HFL pres and Blackwood.

Don't forget that he is the pres of the biggest league (outside of SAAFL) in the state and it certainly wouldn't be an easy job.

No doubt Owen's got his downfalls and I've had plenty of run-ins with him but it's the board's job to pull him into line if he is doing things wrong and they don't seem to be doing that.

IMO I think The Gimp makes a very good point, the board do appear to allow Owen to be a "one man band" .

Pretty sure Tubby Fechner ran last time & when it came to the crunch most of the clubs chickened out & voted for Owen.

Many things need to be said on this topic, most of which have been said before.

It seems the majority of clubs and their reps agree a change should have been made years ago. Ignoring the bleeding obvious has been detrimental to the League and the clubs it represents.
There are many, many competent individuals who would do a great job in this role and who would indeed love to occupy this position with sincerity, knowledge and passion.
I don't think it's fair that posters who call for a change be challenged to do the job themselves. Most of us have full-time day jobs with many playing key roles at our own clubs at the same time.
Perhaps the League should cough up and tell us exactly what the terms and conditions of the Presidential role are, including details of renumeration (if any).
If there is NO RENUMERATION, Owen is indeed a lucky man to be able to self-fund such a powerful role. If that is correct, surely this is a 'conflict of interest' in that other candidates cannot afford to be there when they may be more than qualified to be there.
Lastly, it certainly does appear that the Board do indeed allow Owen to be a 'one man band'. Why is this happening?

I think it's time for more transparency on the part of the HFL. Every other organisation has to comply these days. Maybe a good topic for The Courier to pick up, or this forum to argue, before another election whizzes by and we have the same old story for the next two years.
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

Well said Crumber, from what I'm told the current President is suffering some serious health issues but still wants to remain in the job. It might be stubbornness on his behalf and I sure hope his health improves but he seems to be putting himself before the HFL. Have also heard he receives some sort of remuneration but of what amount I don't know. For the betterment of the League I think it's time he stepped down, he can walk out graciously that way rather than drag out what would most likely be an ugly 2 year stint. I'm sorry Owen but it's time to go, you had a good run now hand it over to a new face. Let's hope there's a new face that wants a great challenge.

I do know the health issue that Owen has, and would have thought that that would have been reason enough for him to step down, but it seems he wants to continue to be the same pigheaded person he has always been.

It will be all sorted out at the next AGM and let's wish Owen's dog all the best for a prosperous outlook over the next couple of years. Back to November footy talk and Nairne Bremer starting premiership favourites ....... I hear the Rams have signed a young but proven century goalkicker from the Riverland area.

Rams52 - do you have any further information, as this sounds like a great boost for the quality of footy being played in the 2012 Country Div.

Zac Peake's the full forward, kicked over 100 goals this Season and Jon Simonette is the other from Wentworth. Look forward in catching up with them when we start pre-season on the 30 November.
