An open letter of thanks to the selectors from John Q Public

Postby Rik E Boy » Mon Jan 23, 2006 9:45 am

Dear Selectors,

I just thought I'd write to you to express my gratitude for your glaring ineptitude by picking truly laughable combinations throughout the current VB series. Your bewildering selections have proven to be indirectly responsible for me re-discovering my love of the one day game.

Over the years, your predecessors have thoughtlessly selected combinations that were far too strong for the opposition with no regard whatsoever for the needs of the spectators and television viewers. 300 to 189 BORING. However, now that you have decided to leave out Matthew Hayden, Jason Gillespie and that exciting newcomer Phil Jaques, we have no chance of that happening today.

The continual loyalty shown to Nick Katich has been inspiring. When the openers get out early, our captain can no longer plunder the first change bowlers. Your selection of Angel Dorey is also inspired. Jo Angel must smile watching the big Western Australian lumber in. Another great idea is this rotation stuff, by keeping something up our sleeves we are making other nations think the Aussies are armless. By promoting the leaden footed Martyn to the opening position, you are spitting in the face of Channel seven and it's 'Dancing with the stars' program. Kudos!!

Thanks to you gentlemen, 20/20's days are numbered, as are lopsided one day tournaments. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'll be at the next match, front row centre, to watch some bloke I've never heard of going for ten runs an over in this exciting new era for world cricket.

regards,

John Q Public

My system has just produced an error report to tell me upgrades are available for my Sarcasm Detector V3.1.

I better click "ok" before I read that again.

quality work as always REB.
perhaps you could have made reference to the fact that James Hopes gives every cricketer this side of the Thames hope of representing their country.

Agree with you REB. I would like to add that the inspirational move of putting the only spinner in the team as super-sub as another brilliant way of giving the opposition a better break. Thank goodness they didn't realise that the game was being played in Sydney and played a second spinner - there's no way McGill could have provided the spectacle of 19 runs hit off one over.
We used to be good :-(

Agree entirely REB. The selectors have been ordinary since AB left. Firstly, Hussey should have been in the Ashes instead of Katich and MacGill should have played at least one Test!

I understand (to a degree) the rotation policy for the VB series, but to drop Jacques for Katich after he made 94 on debut is ridiculous. Gillespie, Hayden, Jacques and Warne (if he wants to) should be in the one-day squad with a view to the World Cup.

And Hopes, not Hogg, should have been super-sub at the SCG the other night!

I don't see Dorey 'making it' Double Blue. So after a horrible loss, who is next to be rested on one of the best batting wickets in the country? That's right, our best batsman and captain. This is beyond a joke. 20/20 has more credibility than what has been happening this summer.

Interesting to see who will play tomorrow. Katich or Jacques. Both Blue boys. And only one making runs, a no brainer really.

Martyn 101 @ 25.25
Katich 79 @ 26.33

My point was actually agreeing with you Stan, about the NSW players somehow having a golden ticket to the Australian team! The way the selectors are acting it wouldn't suprise me if they drop Martyn in favour of Katich, but like you and the figures suggest that is unlikely to happen.

Drop Katsnatch for Jacques. A NSW man for a NSW man. That way the selectors cant complain.
