Obviously the great man is one of the best players of all time, but theres always the debate, was he better at West Coast or Carlton?

Watching some old videos of him flying around at West Coast, he was just freakish there, can't say i've seen him like that at Carlton yet.

West Coast for me.

West Coast with little thought.

To star in a side consisting of cousins, kerr, embley when they were at the peak of their powers was special.

Carlton are emerging and will end up having a brilliant midfield to mold around an experienced judd. Unfortunately he will be past his peak when that happens

That forms the basis of my argument. He has had no real help at carlton before this year and has maintained if not improved his game. Gun

I agree with that, he still would have been a great player at WC even without these names.

Gun regardless of who he plays for!

Probably going against the grain here, but think he has been better at Carlton - by virtue of having less support and having to win his own ball a lot more, rather than having bigger bodies protect him more than when he was at West Coast. Certainly brilliant at West Coast, though.

CK, I'm sort of with ya. I actually thought Ablett would struggle without the support around him. What he's done is star, regardless of the support because he's an out and out star. Judd likewise. I think people have realised how good he is when he's single handedly got Carlton over the line on several occasions. That said..... I really have to admit, I didn't take a hell of a lot of notice of WCE because I didn't have Foxtel and or watch a lot of their games. In the lead up to the finals in the premiership contending era (05/06) I realised what an absolute gun he was (and people had talked about). Till then I'd really heard but not seen how good he was.

See I reckon that players who are apparently one of the best of all time should be able to hit the side of a barn. Judd not even the best Eagle of all time for mine.

No doubt a great player.
I still maintain that Kerr was the best of that Eagles era, closely followed by Cousins.
He has been great at both clubs but stands out more at Carlton.

At Carlton.
He just dominates with no help apparently, but his average disposal count is up, yet it's through more handballs, so instead of being able to receive from that gun Eagle midfield, he's bringing more players into the game, and helping create future stars.

Wouldn't rule out a premiership at Carlton, which, IMO, would mean more than the one he got at the Eagles.

Agreed. I'd have Cousins and Matera ahead of Judd, maybe a couple of others as well. Forget this best of all time stuff, it's just something that has manifested itself through the media over the years.

Tough one, but West Coast for mine, if for no other reason than his body was better and his pace was blistering .. Reckon his kicking was better then too.

Thought he was very very good at West Coast, but having watched him play for Carlton for the past few years, and just about every game, the bloke is a freak. Love him.

Chris Judd

Postby Turbo » Thu Nov 10, 2011 11:11 am

Will go down in history as one of the all time greats. I find it tiresome that people invest so much of their time to analyse why they think he isn't a good player. He was a champion at west coast, he is a champion at Carlton that is all

Agreed Turbo. In my time watching the game I have not seen a player who has the ability to shake off a tackle or take the ball away from a contested situation as well as Judd.
