Sad to hear of the passing of Peter Roebuck. Many of the good ones are gone now and Peter was one of the good ones. R.I.P.

Third worst commentator ever (after Bill and Tony). The inverse of Bill took the anti-Australian line for no reason apart from trying to be different/"interesting". In my opinion he pampered to the anti-Australian supporter in the same way Bill pampered his commentary style to the pro-Australian supporter. There was no balance or objectivity in his commentary just formula speak to a certain market. It was disgraceful what he wrote after the 2008 Sydney test about Ponting, the Indians are angels aren't they? I have no problems with the Australian team being criticised, in the same way I hate them being put up on a pedestal, I hate formula driven commentary/opinion.

Felt his discussion of the game was too negative, didn't like it when teams attacked or took initiative. Liked the cautious approach, however he did change in recent years.

ABC should have got rid of him in 2000 when they had the chance: http://www.abc.net.au/am/stories/s128057.htm.

Divisive character just ask the 1986 Somerset team.

I'm sad a human being has died but glad I have my ABC commentary team back.

I must admit I'm not a fan, especially since learning about the incident in 2000.

Nevertheless, RIP.

RIP I for one enjoyed his banter on Grandstand and feel as though it will be missed this summer. A forum such as this is definitely not a place to be bagging out someone at such a time.

there will be a dastardly story emerge over this. Why do you top yourself if you are a successful media dude with a high-paid career for life? Money problems and Sex scandal will be in the grand final. Drug issues, gambling and mental illness make the top five.
Poor bugger - I liked his commentary. Vale

I enjoyed his commentary.

I also think there is more to come that relates to the police speaking to him just prior to him jumping six floors to his death from his hotel room.

This post is completely unfair. I always felt he gave every bit of credit to any aussie who deserved it and rather than the usual standard of sports journalist of the sportsman in question being either flawless or a total wreck he wrote and spoke of the good and the bad in fair measures. He often came at issues from a different perspective as opposed to the traditional and obvious to anyone, a quality too few journalists possess.

Fair enough you didn't like his comments on the game, not everyone will. But the general tone of your comment is appaling, not to mention the fact it has no place on this thread.

Roebuck plunged to his death after jumping out of a window while police were still in the room. He landed on the awning outside the entrance to the hotel.

Police removed personal items from his room.
