WHO IS THE IDIOT THAT DECIDED TO START THE TROTTS THIS SATURDAY AT 5.12 PM ? NOW FOR ONE THEY WILL FULLY COMPETE WITH OAKBANK, I'D DOUBT THE BOOKIE WOULD BE THERE FOR THE EARLY EVENTS, THE SANFL WOULD BE FINISHING ABOUT 20 MINUTES BEFORE THE FIRST SO NOT MANY WOULD DECIDE TO GO (INCLUDING ME) I'LL GO TO ELIZABETH FROM RICHMOND

THE TROTTS SHOULD BE STARTING AROUND 7PM TO ALLOW ANY THAT GO TO OAKBANK THE CHANCE TO GO TO THE TROTTS (NOW THERE IS NO CHANCE) ALSO THOSE THAT LIKE ME ARE AT THE FOOTY THE CHANCE
& ANYONE PLAYING SPORT OR WORKING DURING THE DAY, NOW THERE IS NO CHANCE FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE

IF THEY CANT GET THE BASICS RIGHT WHAT HOPE FOR THE FUTURE ??????????

U make some good points but i think the main reason is to get as many races as they can into the high turnover time slot of 5pm to 7pm.I think Albion Park began this trend a few years ago and their turnover went up sharply.
True that it is extremely inconvenient for a lot of people but since when has it been a priority of the racing codes to get people back to the track?
Last year from memory on Easter Saturday, their was no Bookie For the First race and only 1 or 2 tote operaters for the first 2 - 3 races as they were all working at Oakbank.

Oakbank - 25 - 30 bookies.... plenty of people and atmosphere... rides for the kids.. jumps racing...
Globe - 1 shit dh bookie.. about 150 people with no atmosphere.. nothing for the kids.. cold night racing...

Gee I wonder.. even for the extra $10 to get in - Oakbank would win everyday..... but for people like me who before moving to Melbourne would always do the Oakbank / Globe and Oakbank / Angle Park double.. it's a disgrace!!

scd, i'll be doing the double....richmond oval followed by elizabeth oval but to answer your ? you'd go where you can win thats why there is 1 bookie (if you can call him a bookie) at gdp & 40-50 or whatever at oakbank, some bookies they dig up once every 12 months

MAL mentioned this thread to me at yesterday mornings dog meeting, and i said to him what the astute JACKPOT JIM has already mentioned, its a move to attract off-course turn-over. you look at Albion Park, im not sure if it still occurs but when they started at the 4:30ish time-slot they were having 1 or 2 races before the gallops had even finished.

its all about getting the people in the pubs during the day for the gallops to have a few more bets on the trots, and people will bet on them if they are chasing!!!

Only the mug punters are there at that time of the day (hence I am usualy there)..... of course they back the trots..... as you look up on the screens and it says next race Albion Park.... doesnt matter if it was the Nannango dogs scoob and I would still punt on it..... scoob does more punting at the crap vic country meets on a sat than at the city meets......(hence his constant mood swings).... theres a lot more punters at a TAB at 4.30 than 6pm on a sat.... Its just robbing peter to pay paul tho.....

I remember the days of going to see the SANFL at footy park then heading to the Links Hotel for a countery....after the last horse race at 4.10pm there was only Ascot to bet on until the trotters started at 7-10...how times have changed

The biggest mistake isn't with the timing, its with moving out to GDP park to start with, should have stuck at Wayville.
Look how close most trotting tracks in other cities are to the CBD.
