R1: Port v Norwood review

All discussions to do with the SANFL

I know they're not in Tredrea's class but Port will get back Waterhouse next week and maybe Hargs soon also.
I know people have varied opinions on them both but they do kick goals and their varying styles will compliment (Waterhouse lead, Hargs in goalsquare)

Port's second quarter was pretty impressive. Tredrea received some soft frees, but looks ready for return to the AFL. I wouldn't be too disappointed if I were a Redleg, Norwood showed some fight to get back in the second half. Thought McGuinness stood out for Norwood; Tredrea, Dolling, Meiklejohn for the Magpies.
So the message is clear, the Magpies are back. How Port will play without Tredrea up forward, now that is the question. MMMMM?

Sure, Tredrea playing last night made a huge difference, and you may of noticed that when he came off, the Maggies started faultering. But bringing Waterhouse and Hargraves back in, along with LeCras and Batson up forward, the Magpies should be deadly in attack. Not to mention Jeremy Clayton will go up forward and kick goals as well.

A great night of local footy.

Really didn't see too much of the game to be honest, between catching up with all the regular posters and standing in the longest beer-line. Ever.

Was great to see Miller back and Summerton was excellent. Was very happy with Miekeljohn too. Have to admit to being concerned about him probably leading our ruck all year. Long may he continue to prove me wrong.

Was extremely pleased to see Tredders give a bit of a fist-pump to the stands when he kicked the goal from right in front after the melee. Unlike a few Power boys who've guested for the Magpies in recent times it looked as though he was genuinely interested in the Magpie cause.

Bring on the Eagles.

And LOL at Rucci's article. Notice how the only players named apart from Tredrea were the ones standing directly behind him. A place were Rucci would no doubt like to be...

Was an article on Tredrea not the game. Wonder how many people that went to the game went purely to see one player as well?

Great advertisement for local footy on the field. Lot of unhappy campers in the crowd about the beer lines (20 minutes is a long time at any ground, AFL or SANFL) and the food lines. Yes, it all comes down to volunteers etc, but Norwood seemed to badly underestimate the crowd and may have lost sales by doing so.

You were obviously not at V-Festival in Sydney recently...try 45 mins for a $6.50 tin.

Melbourne's 6.00 news showed snippets of the game, ie Tredrea's hilights, and the voice over
gave the distinct impression that Tredrea was the sole reason for the good crowd.
Funny, but didn't last years opener, Norwood v Glenelg get 8,000?

Warren Tredrea absolute superstar, I paid $9 to watch him in action
If I knew he was going to play that well I would have paid $29 to watch him.
At last he got a chance to revenge the 1997 grand final loss to Norwood.
Yeah I cheered for my legs, and I heard a lot of legs supporters bitching
about Tredrea playing, but I reckon those fickle supporters left very impressed with Tredders.

Great night, great football no kicking at goalposts on the wings just down
the middle with man for man contests throughout, real football.
I got home after and watched BL V SK in the AFL.
I thought the goal posts were on the wings as both sides kicked sideways too often.[stole that line of DC]

Met a couple of nice PA supporters on the line up for the BBQ
We had a nice discussion for those 25 minutes [It was not Sturtpeter]

FWIW I'd still take my chances against Port with Hargreaves and Waterhouse rather than Tredrea. Waterhouse is liable to kick more points than goals and Chubby never seems to do too much against Norwood. Both also offer the chance for their opponents to run off them all day and create as neither of them are paid for each time they chase opponents. Luckily for them.

Norwood were smashed in the middle and will benefit greatly from the inclusion of Bryce Campbell and Tim Nicholas in the weeks ahead. Hopefully Cockshell and Hill get some game time with us and I just reckon we might sneak under a few teams guards this year.

Yeah they need a better system for the bbq. There were three of us waiting 20 minutes for an almost cooked hamburger which is just ridiculous considering it was just after half time in the reserves game. One of the other people waiting looekd like he was ready to jump the bench and clobber the bloke giving out the food when he started giving 5 other people hamburgers who had just rocked up ahead of the people waiting there for it to finish cooking.

Generally the Barby there is pretty organised Macca (had no problems last year when we played ur boys and the crowd was larger), will have to check out what the prob. was.

Port definitely took their collective fingers off the trigger at times and I walked away with no doubt as to how much the scoreline flattered us.

Port should go alright this year and perhaps next week will give us an early indication.

Well, a lot closer than that poster who has your username on BigFooty who suggested that Ryan Willitts was going to be ten times the player Tom Hawkins will be. Surely none of our posters would be so silly?
