Precisely indeed

Which is probably why other posters on this thread are concerned that our current posistion may be threatened by some policies of the current government.

Which is why this thread was started

Thus far all other posters have managed to stay relevant.

Graphs , articles etc... Is the usual spin people in management usually do to use their smoke and mirrors method of everything is fine in the world !!!

I shall say again .. Go speak to the workers at castalloy R&B and tell them to cheer up as everything is fine according to your graphs !!

I speak to the people on the street and there is not much positive energy out there mate !!!

There is nothing incorrect in the article

The article also has nothing to do with the situation at Castalloy

Unless you take it in the context that, with the economy going so strong between 1985 and 2010, what has occured recently regarding our economy to contribute to this situation, if they are indeed linked?

southee, they're not my graphs.

They're graphs of a large number of economic indicators that show that Australia is as a country is way ahead of the world. Hardly a 'ruined economy'.

You don't need to tell me many people are doing it tough. I've long supported more equality of wealth distribution, so that the people doing it tough get a better deal. Many of those who oppose a carbon tax are annoyed that it's a mild wealth redistribution.

The Castalloy situation has bugger all to do with a not-yet-introduced carbon tax.

By the way, I have vast sympathy for the Castalloy workers. My late father worked in the foundry there for many years, one of the reasons I tend to support the workers when these things happen.

Might quickly add that of course the economy wasn't going so great at times during 1985 and 2010, however there cleary was good average growth.

Component suppliers for the motor vehicle industry have been closing down for a long time now. Castalloy aren't the first. In fact Castallow were saved by Harley Davidson back in 2006 so HD could guarantee their components supply.

So I don't think there is a link back to the Carbon tax. The automative manufacturing industry in Australia is facing bigger challenges than the carbon tax. It's not like now they are suddenly uncompetitive. They already were.

On my reading of the article on Adelaide Now it seems like as soon as the Government support for continuing the business stopped, which it did recently, the shut-down decision that was delayed back in 2006 was finally made.

My sympathies go out to the 212 workers. Let's hope there's enough wind down time for them to find new jobs. There doesn't seem to be any risk to their entitlements which is good.

scoob, compared with the rest of the world we're in fantastic shape now.

Not compared with the rest of the world, we're in fantastic shape now.

Your last disingenuous statement is not connected to anything I've said, but me being supposedly off-topic has generated a lot of discussion, so all good.

There will always be some who are struggling, but my philosophy is much more towards helping them than many on here ;)

(Unless you can say with a straight face that Mr Abbott wants to help them) :D

Shame people loosing jobs turns into political point scoring.

Thanks scoob. I haven't commented on the jobless figures as there wasn't much change, even allowing for media spin.

I was just amused at others' comments, as when they're good, it isn't anything to do with the government, it's due to a government 4 years ago, but when they're not so good, it's Gillard's fault.

I love the Politics Forum :)

Even Tony Abbott now admits Wayne Swan is the world's greatest treasurer:

'Unfortunately ... he might be the world's greatest treasurer but he doesn't seem to have a lot of authority with local banks,' Mr Abbott told Macquarie Radio.
