Given recent events, not sure Andrew Wilkie would be that keen....

Despite not being a Gillard fan, what went on yesterday and the anger and violence directed towards her was nothing short of disgraceful. If the League of Rights supporters surrounded the Tent Embassy and did that to those inside all hell would break loose, those inside would feel justifiably frightened and intimidated as was meant for Julia Gillard yesterday.

Abbott was supposed to have made some remark that upset people, turns out he said nothing like what was alleged, even if he did, he and any other Australian has the right to freedom of speech without the threat of violence from people as a result.

I think the elders of the Canberra area owe Julia Gillard an apology for what went on from the embassy that they are supposed to be in control over via thier own custom. Those involved in inciting people from the embassy should be banned from it for life. Ghandi never needed to use Violence to make his point, the Canberra Elders need to take that on board if they have not already.

Would also add that the way Julia Gillard has handled herself both during the incident and afterwards is a credit to her. I have been quick to heap it on her for various things, yet I have to admit that she has shown some very strong leadership over recent days and long may it continue, its exactly what Australia needs at the moment!

The issue was that when Gillard was asked if it was one of her own that advised the tent embassy people where Abbott was and she denied it vehemently. To her credit she investigated it, found that it was actually factual and took the only action she could do?

S.A's own Christopher Pyne is leading the charge for an enquiry into the security breach via the office of the ALP which put Gillard and Abbott into harms way yesterday.

gee the ALP apologists have been quiet on here the last few days as details of the events of 48 hours ago start to emerge. Has to be said though Julia is not responsible for the unauthorised actions of her staff.

The Fairfax press had this to say: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/tent-embassy-antics-a-disaster-for-the-indigenous-cause-20120127-1qkqo.html and this from Michelle Gratton http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/shared-values-shine-through-the-dark-side-of-politics-20120127-1qlo6.html

If you take Gratton's words at face value it appears Bob Carr is further right than Abbott on the issue of indigenous rights and reconcilliation especially with respect to the Tent Embassy.

This whole debacle does no favours to anyone involved - they all look terrible as a result.

You've got Abbott who won't actually say what he meant by people should move on from the Tent Embassy.
You've got Aboriginal people saying they weren't aggressive and some even blaming 'white' agitators.
Then you've got a staffer who leaks that Abbott was there, which prompted the scenario.

And, of course, the beauty of spin tells us that not one of those people were at fault.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Its not a win for Abbott
Its just indicative of why the Labor Party are not worthy of governing this country
Gillard actually could have some out of this episode with a boost to her popularity but instead she must be thinking WTF

Well it ain't working for her ... she needs the balls to make policy decisions as a strong leader, not popularist crap as advised by the spin doctors.
