Seems to be an even draw in C4, will be interesting to see what the C1/C2 clubs of last year bring to the division in terms of quality. Wouldnt imagine their past result been enough to go off, C grade sides do change a fair bit from year to year.

I don't hate it.

Only 2 x Div 5 clubs in C2 though. Plympton unbackable favourites in C3

I am pretty keen to play against clubs I have never played before though, i.e - Portland, Pt District, SHOC and Seaton

It is what it is. Now we focus on Round 1

Apart from Uni who are an unknown, who in that division will trouble Plympton?

What grade you playing this year Masha?

Unfortunately (or fortunately) the day we played you guys we had 15 emergencies. Now as far as I'm aware (unless the rules have changed) the A and B grade can only have 21 players each. So are the guys who are good enough to play higher but couldn't quite crack the first 42 meant to not play at all? Or does the C grade then pick the next 25 best players available? I think you know the answer to that...

Just incase those down at the Valley's cant read, I did throw "just kidding" in there. I was only joking.

I am coaching the C's, so will be playing half a game while holding the white board for the rest. I think we'll have enough numbers so I'll be able to coach more than play.

Fair enough. Make sure you've got a good assistant for when you are on the ground who you can trust to make moves, it made a huge difference for us. I found it tough to stay out there when 7 other blokes were sitting on the pine. Easy to drag yourself and just coach. Good luck to you this season.

Brahma Lodge should go well in C4...

...Just kidding ;)

Hey...no need to be like that! ;)

I actually think with the teams in the division, and the possible player movements at the club, the C grade will be a lot more competitive than last year. I think the difference with a successful C grade side, and a poor one, besides talent (obviously) is having a really good core 6-8 players who are committed every week and dont get called upon by the B grade. Hopefully we'll have that, plus natural improvement and new players coming in. Who knows really, just pretty sure we wont get flogged by 20 goals every week.

You're 100% right about having a core group. At times we were gutted by the B grade (most of the games we lost) and other times we were at full strength. Obviously you always lose your better players. It certainly helps though when the 2 teams above you make the finals. As long as your at full strength when it counts, that's all that matters! :)

They are the grades as proposed by the League and to be presented to Delegates on the 20th this month for their approval

6 out of the C1-C5 grand finalists are now in D8, 3 are in C1 and 1 in C2
C4 consists of teams who won one game and 3 new sides, Brahma Lodge exception as they had 2 wins but one was a forfeit
C2 & C3 are made up of sides who played finals or finished mid table
Obviously Adelaide Uni are the exception as they have 3 sides in C1-C3 as you can't have them play against each other

Hopefully that explains the rationale behind it, for those interested anyway 8)

What happens if Uni win a premiership in C2 or 3?
Do they go up so we can see a student riot on Saturdays when they play each other?

Why Can't they play each other? If you going to have a promotion system they need to go up a grade if they are in the top two. If they don't it will make a joke of the "c" grade comp and they will just stay in one grade and keep winning flags! If that is the case then clubs should throw it out, but other than that it looks better.

Selection night and picking the 2 teams each week would be an interesting affair.

Would be like backyard basketball selection.

2 captains, take ur turn and choose a player from group of 50

Regardless, I'd suggest it wouldn't worry us playing in the same grade eg (C2 Black & C2 white), at least it would be a ripping tripple header. That said, IF and I say IF it happened then as EM said if there was a spot in Div 8 then that would be a better outcome for all.

For once, I'll actually agree with DJ on this one. If their sides can't go up and down, it kind of makes a mockery out of having a promotion/relegation system. If they're not going to be in Div 8/8R and if 2 or 3 of their sides end up in the same div, then so be it, they play each other... :D

In the past, there's always been gaps between the fifth-eighth/seventh uni sides and the divisions they've played within and, as far as i'm aware, it's been other clubs against having several uni sides in the same division. Personally, I'd like to see it - would certainly make internal discussions about the quality of teams that much more enjoyable.. :)
Would also mean that that away game would be a heap of fun.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Uni in Div 8 anyway.

You do get a one year option to stay where you are just like SHOC did in2011 if you finish top 2. But if the sources about a few clubs in Div 7 are correct Uni may very well be in Div 6 and Div 7. :d :d :d

I find it strange that Athelstone go from being Div 7 and drop to C2

And I know they dropped their D Grade

Athelstone should be aligned with their A and B grade who are in division 3 so their C grade should be in C3. Why they have been placed in higher grades is strange as they have not played in a C Grand Final since 1996, they have also lost a lot of players with the clubs decision to not have a D grade. Last time they played C3 they finished 3rd and moved up to Div 7 which was strange and all but removed any hope of playing in a GF when your A grade was struggling to stay in Div2 and their C grade is in Div7.

why would the league put them in a higher grade is beyond me and think its only fair to have them playing against the same clubs in Div 3 and their C grade.

You're a bit out of the loop luv

The division of C grades for the best part no longer relate to that clubs A grade division, they're trialling a promotion/relegation system, hence the change.

Athelstone can no longer stay in div 7 due to having only 3 sides, therefore they slip in as a club.
