I fear Benny Brown will soon find himself in teh same exhalted elevation as Dogga (Woodards).
I hear Brownie has been approached to play footy in Pirie by the way. Any advance on this theory

squid mills the port footy and community club always make a bigstack of money because they were too clever and put the slot machines in the club. VERY smart move from past committee people and good luck to them and i dont feel sorry for the other clubs at all as im sure they could have done the same thing. Theres games there every night so it doesnt come as a suprise that there will be plenty of games there saturday! :) :)

A quick post for all- Congratulations to SouthPort for their first class community spirit and generosity in running a Pink Stumps day during their game on the 11th February. Good news cricket story and encourage all to do their bit to support it for a great cause.
Great initiative. :ymapplause:

I hope Southport get permission to wear coloured pads....I believe Risdons tried to be innovative wearing yellow pads but were told not to by the association.

My 50 cents

Wandearah this week should not be playing in the afternoon in the B's. Teams who refuse to play at the Squid Ring should be made to play the afternoon game.

Next month council meeting will see the moving of next years budget - including costs for ovals. There has been rumours of in being $300 a game but now more likely to be around $220 per game. This budget will get through at this point and will effect more than cricket- softball, football, baseball, soccer etc etc anyone on grass. I have also heard $5000 per year for sollies and Lions to use Globe & Memorial respectively- madness and very unfair but believe me that is what is being put forward, surely that cant get through.
Get talking to your council members or next year we will need to find somewhere else to play, or up the beer eskies to 7 bucks a beer.

Yep Absolute madness, council would be shooting themselves in the foot, as without Lions and Sollies who are going is going to use the ovals?

I am not sure if the $220 is about football or cricket.....either way I am not sure if Port oval charges for the use of the cricket pitch?

Cricket! $220 per game including b's, all ovals. No idea what it is now but dont thinks its $10 a player.
Port is free, plus whatever else they give the ppca but you cant sell beer there.

If it does become $10 a player, you will see less participants in the Bgrade comp next year, clubs are struggling as it is. Which would be a shame, I thought the council would be trying help local sport....All councils money goes to fixing and refixing Wandearah Road anyway.............

Heard that there was some heat in the Southport Props game...maybe the karma bus will get Southport. I hear one of their players was touching an umpire...not good.

Two smashings this week in A grade while once again the Bs had some close results.

Lets hope everyone gets out to Port Oval on Saturday to support this great cause:
The South Port Cricket Club will be one of the hundreds of community cricket clubs across Australia sharing in the Vodafone Sydney Pink Test phenomenon by participating in Pink Stumps Day on the Saturday the 11th of Feb, 2012, an initiative of the McGrath Foundation and Cricket Cares.

The South Port Cricket Club is inviting friends and family to wear pink on the day, and has arranged fundraising activities such as signed cricket memorabilia auctions, as well as having volunteers roam the field with collection tins for donations and temporary tattoos in exchange for gold coin donations to help pink up the club! Plenty more activities will be running throughout the day!

B Grade take on Wandearah at 8.30am, followed by the A grade also against Wandearah at 12:30pm, with fundraising beginning at 11am.

Both games should be crackers. A bit riding on the B Grade match with Wandies hoping to cement a sport in the 4 and Southport hoping to hold onto the double chance.
The A Grade will feature Brooke, Gray and Brown who have all been performing well for Upper North in Adelaide this week.
