Maggies Very Good

Postby LPH » Mon Apr 16, 2007 2:45 pm

Err... how ever much it pains me to say this, they looked very good yesterday.

No. 20 (Le Frog) is a quality player

Our 2nd half was very poor & our disposal was shocking ALL afternoon.

Their midfield was very good & Mickeljohn beat Lindsay.

All in all a disappointing day but at least we can console ourselves in the knowledge that last season we lost our 1st 2 games.

Make no mistake about it footy fans, sadly, the Maggies are contenders in 2007
Stephen Trigg & Rob Chapman are SA Football Patriots

Had $40 on Port at $3.20 for the win. IMHO, it was the best value $3.20 you'll ever get in a two horse race.

I thought Le Cras was excellent in their round 1 win at the Parade (lol appeared as though he had 20 mates too) ... Also was impressed with Summerton in that game.

They look pretty awesome, but a season is a long time, depth will play a factor of sorts in all of the main 4 sides Premiership aspirations and without knowing the injury lists of teams, I'd suggest North leads the way in terms of depth.

Centrals' depth looks pretty good at the moment.
And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Doggies supporter, it's been a fairly big talking point in the lead up to the season.
We also beat North convincingly in both grades....not sure if that changes your thoughts on things CP.

Not really DW, but thats only because I already had Central right up there as a flag favourite

Edit: LOL should have read your post in it's entirety ... I actually didn't realise you beat the Roosters in the Magoo's, so yes that does actually enhance my thoughts on your mob's prospects.

Back on topic though - I was majorly surprised to see yesterday's response.
Good performance by Waterhouse.

Is that his best game since he came back? What can we attribute his performance to yesterday?
Was he the difference?

I read that Ah Chee kept Passador quite too.
I know Passador played well in last year's GF - but is it wrong to ask whether he's a big game player on quality opponents?
Eagles supporters, I'm not looking for an arguement, but a genuine response...

Maybe. He was playing on a 3rd game player though. In my opinion he played better games in his first year back than he did yesterday. Having said that, the amount of one percenters he did yesterday, the chasing, harrasing, tackling, bumping, crashing packs....far and away the most hes ever done in a match that ive ever seen him play, either SANFL or AFL level. Was like a completely different player out there.

Wsa he the difference? Not in my opinion. I think we would have won without him. The Eagles didnt have many winners out there yesterday.

Im just excited that we actually have depth this year. I cant remember the last time we had depth. Would have been in the last premiership years.

To me Macca, that would suggest it's his best game - the team aspect of what you've said must be comforting for Port supporters. Can he or will he keep it up?

Doesn't help when the midfield bombs the ball in without actually aiming passes to him.

Yep, the delivery was terrible - caused by the pressure (real and perceived) of the Port players further up the field. But, I also don't think Passador played as well as he should or could yesterday. Passador kicked some crucial goals in the GF and won best afield in last years ANZAC game. Those are two of the biggest games of the year so I don't think it matters whether or not it's a "big" game. AhChee is the best full back in the competition.

Agree on this. Passador dropped some marks he should have taken, and AhChee was one of the top three on the ground.
