It's time to see how much Sturt have improved under Rick McGowan, when they face Port on the home turf. Port unlike Sturt last two oppenents did make the finals and it will be a good test to see where there at. Last time the two sides meet in round 21 of last year at Alberton oval Port beat Sturt by 98 points. At the moment both sides are undefeated. Sturt should put a good challenge, however I think Port will be to strong. Port by 24 points

yeah, im actually disappointed its on a sunday that means i have to have an early one satdy night here....and with our anzac day party next week, that sucks...altho, we do start at 3pm so it may be an early one anyway

onto the game....Sturt will definately see how are the top 3 sides are going to be like this year and get a good lesson i reckon. Just hope Rick has them pumped, im sure port at alberton gets the competitive juices flowing.

Sturt's past two games were to be indicators of where we are at. After Westies the bar was raised a little, now the Blues have gotten over Glenelg as well, so I guess it is time to raise the bar a little bit again. The difference between those two games and the one coming up against Port is that Port have a fairly formidable track record so far this year, and both Westies and Glenelg were playing their first games.
Observers of the Magpies so far have sort of described them as being in a class above the likes of Sturt, Westies and co. and have them heading the table with Centrals leaving the rest to make up the numbers. I heard a heap of praise given out to some of the younger blokes after Port's first game, and Deluca kicked about 4 against the Eagles so it appears as though he's into some form as well. With these guys contributing along with the usual suspects Port would appear to have the Double Blues well and truly covered on paper.
On the other hand I really liked the way the Blues finished off against the Bays, and how they have withstood the challenges thrown at them over the past two weeks. The turn around from last year has been enormous to date. Sturt went down by 98 points the last time they played Glenelg, to get up by 26 today makes it a 124 point turn around against that side. Hopefully we can continue our improvement and put in the effort to worry the Magpies. I don't want to be getting ahead of myself in blind enthusiasm, but we are going in the right direction, so we must at least rate a chance in this game.
I'm going for the Blues in a blockbuster.

I'd imagine it wouldn't have been out of the average Sturt supporter's mind to have been 0 and 2 with the season but a formality after that?

Although a great start Wedgie, things must be put into perspective,, Westies were missing 12 due to suspension, hence we won all 4 grades, and the bays were also non-finalists last year who were playing their 1st game of the season at opposition soil.

Next game WILL be a barometer for sure.....

Don't get me wrong mate, I don't think Sturt will win the flag, I still think they'll be long shots to make the finals but I think their odds of being the wooden spooners would have ballooned out a bit from 2 weeks ago.

Steven Summerton is a young lad who's made his way up the ranks at Port Adelaide. Played mostly in the reserves last year, but when he got the chance to play league, he made the most of it. He really really worked hard to improve himself during the off-season, and it's paying off thus far.
