Has something changed recently that I have missed. Are we talking about Poole Oval on Matthew Pl?
Where are the wind breaks at Poole Oval?
The oval is on a lean. The carpark is disgusting when it rains and when dry and windy. The S-E pocket floods. The canteen is 5 min walk and the clubrooms are retro.
One could argue that Ravendale has a lot better view mp.
Cans outisde and bottles inside at both venues then?

Who is Ian Burfitt? Is that the new PLFL CEO?

Ian is the mastermind behind ravendale

It was his vision that made it all happen.

THE plans to upgrade the Ravendale Sporting Complex into Port Lincoln’s sports hub have been redrawn following revelations Centenary Oval could be sold.

Initially the Ravendale plans were developed with the aim of maintaining Centenary as the home of football and cricket in the city but in an environment where Big W is understood to be considering making a bid for the historic oval new plans have been developed.

Under those plans the project would involve a $5.7 million upgrade at Ravendale featuring the construction of a 600 seat grandstand, changerooms and clubrooms capable of catering for Australian Football League pre-season games, local finals and competitions for about nine different sports.

The Ravendale Oval Sport Complex concept plan Stage Two, which was adopted by the council’s general purposes committee on Monday, would see Ravendale as the home of football, with Poole Oval maintained as a secondary venue.

That would leave the way open for the sale of Centenary for its development as a commercial site.

“Right now it’s a concept plan and there are two sets of concepts, whether Centenary Oval is kept or not,” Active Communities project officer Mark Fisher said.

The sale of Centenary Oval would require more infrastructure at Ravendale, but the retention of Poole Oval would mean that the existing netball facilities on Stevenson Street could be retained.

Standing in the way of the upgrade is strong community sentiment about the historic value of Centenary Oval combined with the fact the Port Lincoln Football League has made it clear it wants Centenary Oval retained and developed.

Greenway International, the architects behind the Ravendale plans, determined that $1.4 million would be needed from the city council to upgrade Centenary Oval to an acceptable standard.

The savings the council could achieve by avoiding an upgrade at Centenary, plus the cash injection from the sale price, are seen to offer major benefits to the Ravendale project.

THE Tasman Football and Sporting Club could relocate its clubrooms from its current New West Road site to Ravendale Oval in an effort to secure its future financial viability.

It has been proposed the club sell its existing clubrooms and become part of a joint-use sporting facility planned as part of the Ravendale Oval redevelopment.

The Ravendale Sporting Facility would combine interested sporting groups into the one clubroom - which could include football, hockey, cricket, tennis and gymnastics.

The football club has indicated to the Port Lincoln City Council, its desire to explore selling its existing clubrooms and developing a new complex in conjunction with the Ravendale Oval redevelopment.

The city council's general purposes committee voted on Monday night to advise the Tasman Football Club it was keen to begin official preliminary discussions into the possible relocation.

The full council meeting to be held next Monday must ratify that decision, before it is official.

Tasman Football Club president Ian Sellen said the idea had been floated with the best interests of the club at heart, but would not be implemented without the majority support of members.

"We look forward to sharing joint premises and the proposed facility with the Port Lincoln Hockey Association and other interested parties.

"We will continue to support the Port Lincoln Football League and Centenary Oval.

"We believe the decision to move to Ravendale will be beneficial, not only to the Tasman Football Club and the Port Lincoln Hockey Association, but also the Port Lincoln Football League and the future of football on lower Eyre Peninsula," he said.

"This decision should in no way be seen to be detrimental to the Port Lincoln Football League or other kindred clubs.

"We will continue to keep those parties informed so that issues raised can be worked though in a direct manner."

City council chief executive officer Ian Burfitt said he had been aware of the club's intentions for a couple of weeks.

IN two years time, the Ravendale Sports Complex will incorporate an AFL-standard football oval, 12 netball courts, a baseball diamond, cricket pitches, a new clubroom facility, long and triple jump pits to complement the recently opened artificial hockey turf.
These are all part of the Port Lincoln City Council's $5.5 million redevelopment of Ravendale Oval, which is now set to begin full-scale construction starting with the netball courts.

The final master plan for the oval, prepared by Greenway Consultants, was unveiled on Thursday afternoon.

City council chief executive officer Ian Burfitt said the masterplan was the culmination of many years of planning.

He said it would take two years of construction to redevelop the oval to match the masterplan (but the sealing of the car parking areas will not be completed in that time).

Mr Burfitt said people would soon notice huge changes to the sporting complex with the construction of the netball courts and the Ravendale Community Clubrooms, all planned to start within the next few months.

The sporting bodies involved in the redevelopment are hockey, netball, baseball, Little Athletics, the Ravendale Community Sports Centre committee all of whom have signed memorandums of understanding with the council, as well as football and cricket who have yet to sign memorandums.

Little Athletics president Hugh Bayly said being a part of the redevelopment meant an expansion and new focus for the sport as well as a lift in its profile.

Port Lincoln Netball Association president Miriana Papazoglov said it was very exciting for the association, particularly after so many talks.

"It's good to see a start on it," she said.

Port Lincoln Hockey Association vice president Wayne Harvey said the association was looking forward to working with the other groups to making the sporting facility the best in regional South Australia.

"This is another step forward to the future," he said.

Port Lincoln Football League president Greg Fitzgerald said the league was very much in favour of the proposed AFL-standard oval.

"It is tremendous news - the better the facilities to play on, the better for the sport," he said.
"The redevelopment will certainly provide better facilities for a range of sports, but it is also evident that the facility will not be able to cater for the needs of all sporting bodies in the city.
"That is the basis for other sport and recreation fields in the city to be kept and maintained."
Mr Fitzgerald said while an AFL-standard oval would be magnificent, the Ravendale facility would not be ready in time for next year's planned AFL trial game in Port Lincoln in late February, and Centenary Oval would be the only facility in the city with the appropriate amenities to host such an event.
Last night, the full council was expected to view the masterplan of the oval and endorse a recommendation to adopt the concept plan in principle and circulate the plan to all sporting organisations and clubs throughout the city and invite their involvement and promotion of the project.

CRICKET is on the bottom of the list at Ravendale with funding for a new turf wicket and other practice facilities not expected for at least five years, according to Port Lincoln Cricket Association president Brian Harvey.
Mr Harvey said the construction of infrastructure such as car parks, grandstands and change rooms at the Ravendale sporting complex had pushed back funding allocation for a turf pitch.

Mr Harvey said for the coming 2004/2005 season games would be played at both Ravendale and Centenary Oval but "we hope to keep Centenary as the home of cricket".

"We've always said that we're happy to move to Ravendale but we do not want to lose Centenary Oval under any circumstances," Mr Harvey said.

"We consider Centenary Oval to be the home of football and cricket and we wish to retain it."

Mr Harvey also raised concerns that the council's decision to grant $400,000 to the Matthew Flinders Home this week could push back funding even further.

"I would imagine there would be cutbacks on some things that were to happen at Ravendale."

However, Port Lincoln City Council director of corporate services Geoff Dodd said the council had not yet determined where the funds for the Matthew Flinders Home $400,000 grant would come from.

Mr Harvey said the cricket association would meet with Port Lincoln City Council chief executive officer Ian Burfitt early in November to discuss funding options and the facilities the cricket association would need at Ravendale.

It is. Same size as MCG and surface is brilliant. Should be a NAB Cup game here in the next year or two,

Stage 2 got put on hold when Centenary didnt sell. So no 600 seat grandstand yet till we sell that run down old place in town, Those front gates of centenary are disgusting. First thing you see when you come into town is those 60 year old gates

Pretty sure that Poole and Centenary are in the midst of upgrades as we type.

Even Mallee's oval is getting better.

Won't forget my first game at Ravendale once the complex had been built...

Started having a shower and there was a flood... No drainage in the showers...

And BTW, how on earth has Ravendale propped anything other oval up, when it is losing money hand over fist?
